    Nose: alcohol sting, dark berries
Palate: more dark berries, sweetness from the grain, apricots
    Finish: medium finish, cherries

    ¥275 / 15 ml @ Kyoto Isetan.

Appearance: Medium to deep amber orange.

Nose: Spicy rye, dills / herbs, vanilla, cherry, apple.

Palate: Sweet corn sugar and caramel, cherry, vanilla, more bourbon than rye, sweet.

Finish: Sweet cherry, vanilla, pepper, oak.

With Water: Just a drop. Too much flattens out and brings out the wood tannins.

Overall: Rather bourbon like but nosing more like a rye. Nose is better than the flavor, finish is a touch too bitter. This is ok, but definitely not worth $50.

    • Nose
      88 88
Closed-up in the beginning but then, lots of dried fruits, vanilla, honey and caramel
    • Taste
      88 88
Marzipan, orange (dried), lemon. Later cinnamon and anis
    • Finish
      85 85
Not so complex but a good nice medium length after taste

  7. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

I find the delicious, beautiful blend, extremely much vanilla.
    • Nose
Vanilla, dense, sweet and fruity (yellow fruits, ripe yellow plums) with a surprising slightly dirty exhaust note (not unpleasant in the context), plus a good dash of oak, rather fresh and bitter.
    • Taste
there it is weird, it burns easily, a lot of vanilla, almost vanilla sauce, a little fruit compote, then a few bitter notes of oak, but all in all a vanilla bomb.
    • Finish
slightly tart, a bit "grainy", vanilla is still there, the fruits are no longer so evident. Towards the end you notice the blend, which he hid quite well in his nose and mouth.

Surprisingly mild on the tongue for 50%.
    • Nose
      83 83
Raisins, dried figs and plums, some nail polish remover at the beginning. A light herbal note, pepper, solvent continues to resonate. Chocolate, almond bitters.
    • Taste
      83 83
Mild start with raisins, orange jam, hazelnuts, almonds. Spices are added quite quickly: pepper, clove powder. In addition cooling menthol.
    • Finish
      82 82
Quickly slips over the tongue. Leaves a woody trail with almonds and tart oranges. Still mentholous.

Another great KIRIN. The standard Sanroku (which is already non-coloured and not chill-filtered) is a very tasty whisky, but the signature blend tops this easily. mouthwatering textures, creamy smell and taste, really impressive oaky finish.

compared to the really shitty NAS from Nikka and Suntory, this Kirin delivers a great quality and lovers of Japanese Whisky should not think too long about buying or not, because as all great malt from Japan... once discovered by the masses, it will be gone in seconds. worth putting a few in the cellar now...

Bears uncanny resemblance to the Four Roses Single Barrel (sharing the same master blender) but somehow doesn't keep up the expectation. Too oaky and bitter with an overall thin viscosity. It was a bit of a letdown to be honest.

    blend upscale version?
    • Nose
caramel, vanilla, malt, wood and heap spices!
    • Taste
      the wood well present soaked
      the malt there well present
varied fruits, a little cooked, sweet vanilla!
      recessed spices
caramel again with rounder, drier wood
    • Finish
medium to long, sweet, fine, with vanilla and woody!

Not fruity, not spicy. I smell a nice oak note.
If I hold my olfactory bulb a little further into the glass, then you already notice the alcohol, but it does not sting. Everything is well integrated.
Now comes out a little sherry barrel, very aromatic in the nose.

I take a small sip - and it starts slowly, a little spicy, but then he launches, pulls all the juices out of my mouth. The vanilla joins, the oak flavor remains.

Long finish. Unusual for a NAS.
    Really good.
