The full, concentrated cargo of deep dark fruits and smoke. Do you smell a basket full of berries and dark fruits when sprinkled with alcohol and lighted?
Blackberries, plums, juicy cherries, black currants, currants, cranberry
As well many wood notes, sawdust and furniture polish.
Behind the smoke is something slightly perfumed, reminding me of tobacco original, but with a touch of violets.
The whole presses very intensively from the glass and requires concentration to take this apart.
Phew, the start is fierce, very intense woody-spicy, accompanied by a certain alcoholic bite. Only with time will he become more accessible, fruity, but he will never be really sweet. Dark chocolate, cocoa and espresso combine to form ashes.
From the consistency, I have the feeling of having a chocolate pudding in the mouth, you can almost chew it.
The finish is long, ashy, dark-sweet.
With water, the Ballechin in the nose brighter, more towards red berries and fruits. In the mouth it is also lighter and more fruity (but also dominated by water tart spice and the dark notes and ashes), but it also becomes significantly astringent. The inside of the mouth contracts, the inside of the cheeks feel almost furry.
After the tasting I feel almost drained a bit - to break down the flavors I needed a lot of concentration. A second dram "just like that" also had a very diffuse aroma, like an oak-fruit ash smoothie.
Easy drinking is definitely different!
Still, I find the whisky really good, and I like that heavy, dark profile. Slight prints for this strange perfume note in the background, and for the arduous bulkiness of this malt.
