Well, I don’t even know, a rather non-standard, even unexpected profile. Would I like such a smoke box? No, I would not want to. But in general, it’s good.
    • Nose
Freshly cut grass, cheesecake with lemon, smoked lemons on charcoal, green leaves, burnt branches, green apple peel, wet paper.
    • Taste
A little bit of pepper, fresh, bright, sparkling, a little sweet. Lemon zest with caramel, motifs of hay and different grains, bun.
    • Finish
Pleasant, warming, peppermint-grassy. Again hay and freshly cut grass, a little haze, a bit of salt and again lemons.

Quite interesting, duchess-caramel, but did not feel any peat smoke there.

Took a glass of this one in a bar, not in the best tasting conditions but still : quite a dry whisky, mostly light smoke and almonds with some soft green touch on top (acid green apple and hay ?) .
It feels balanced and well done, curious about other bottlings even if I'm not sure I'll try this one again (and 60€ in my local store feels too much).

    • Nose
      85 85
Strong peat smoke with a slightly medicinal note. Despite the citrus aroma, this Benromach is rather sweet.
    • Taste
      86 86
Strong with a spicy pepper note. The peat smoke is only slightly present. The sweetness from the nose is also noticeable. Vanilla, honey and I even taste chocolate.
    • Finish
      85 85
Long and persistent with smoke and spices on the finish.

  9. Bomshanka scored this whisky 87 points Expert Junior

Compared to the regular 10 year old Benromach, this is definately more peaty, but more inland peaty than Islay peaty and not overwhelming in any way. Non-Chill filtered, uncoloured and +3% up on ABV to 46% compared to the standard. It retains the distillery character and remains a bargain.
    • Nose
      87 87
Fruity, malty, hay, burning hay, sweet heather, herbs, honey, flinty and minerally dust on a dry day.
    • Taste
      88 88
Sweet, honeyed and salty. Like smoked honeybaked ham. Light oak and vanilla sugar. Orange and lemon peeking out.
    • Finish
      87 87
Finishing on the citrus fruit drying out into herbs and mineral dust. Like a gravel path in summer.

  10. Alessandr0 scored this whisky 84 points Newbie

A pleasant drink, sweet, with fruit notes. It is unclear where there is 47 ppm, some felt only in the aroma, and then not significant.
    • Nose
      84 84
At a distance a little bit of smoked, coal is just a burned fire, if inhaled deeper, apple cider.
    • Taste
      81 81
The taste is sweet, apples, pears, vanilla.
    • Finish
      88 88
Sweet, apples, pastries, light sourness appears. Aftertaste is long, warm and pleasant
