Whisky Reviews for Glen Scotia 1991 SMD

  1. St. Pauli scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Fruit, herbs and spices. Seems like a soft and rounded combination. Ripe apples, sweet white grapes (almost white raisins). Behind that, there is apple juice and unripe pineapple. Next, it's fairly grassy and malty, with a good portion of dust. Then, the wood speaks, with vanilla cream, icing sugar. Behind that, there is a layer of mint and wood spice. It comes across as well integrated.
    • Taste
A rich and velvety taste, with good balance between fruit and wood. The fruit remains quite tropical, the wood gets more polished and like sandal wood. Still, there is some vanilla to be detected. The malt is more on the background, but present. Soft spices (pepper, ginger, cinnamon) finish this taste.
    • Finish
The finish is a little drying, but this is pleasant. The wood was quite active, but didn't fully surpress the fruity character of the distillate. Most prominent are cinnamon, ginger, sandal wood, tinned peach and pineapple.
