Appears lovely and fruity, with a sweet vanilla aroma. There is also a citrus note.
    • Taste
      84 84
I hear a slight tingle on the front of my tongue. Woody and a little peppery. The sweetness from the nose is clearly reduced.
    • Finish
      83 83
Long spicy (ginger?) and slightly peppery finish that becomes increasingly dry.

    Whoa. KIWI BOMB!

Never had any whisky before with such strong aromas / flavors of kiwi. Super acidic, zingy, and fresh, very intense, but not alcoholic at all, perfectly potable at cask strength.
Bit of a one-trick pony, but it's a real experience, and that's worth quite a few points in my book. Something to show your friends, and a real unicorn. A kiwi unicorn.

[February, 2019] A quick review of a sample of a distillery I never was a fan of (despite a very fine recent bottling - WB id 113347)...

...and this release is completely sulphur-spoiled - of course, because it is a special release by a german bottler (why the hell (literally) do Germans like such stuff). This has nothing in common with whisky at all, this is like drinking a complete box of total-dissolved matches including the ignition area of the matchbox. I will never understand how people can like such a smell and taste - but: If you do, enjoy!
    • Nose
The colour is jonquiripe corn and the nose offers a completely sulphur-spolied dram. I sniff nothing else than the smell of hell - booah, this is disgusting! I guess the devil's pee must smell this way...
    • Taste
F... - this is extremely gross. Luckily the spittoon is nearby, I reject to swallow such stuff. And no, there are no other flavours except of satan's element.
    • Finish
Yes, I have to finish tonight's tasting session because my taste buds are completely blocked by these extreme sulphurous notes. Hopefully they restore until tomorrow night...

Nose: grated apples, hazelnut, white chocolate, nut nougat spread (the one with the white milk cream curls in it), pineapple, limes (but with a slightly alcoholic touch, like in a cocktail)

Taste: light fruit, elderberry, nougat, lemon jelly, quince jelly

Finish: light but medium in length, dominated by citrus notes, evocative, creamy, lemon flavor (as in a cake)

Conclusion: He is definitely fun. I have not yet formed a perfect opinion, but in my opinion this is a very nice summer color with its full-bodied and present citrus notes. It also tastes good in winter. PLV is ok.

Sulfur red is too dominant. Inedible for me. Too bad. (Sample tasting circle)

My first whisky from Macduff, with which I'm not so warm. A false note is (for me) clearly noticeable, the Madeira finish does not seem to have given so much. The alcohol strength is well chosen.
    • Nose
The first impression is mild, nutty and with a slight hint of sulfur. Fresh, light citrus fruits. Some malt, vanilla and mineral. You do not feel the alcohol. All in all, very reserved.
    • Taste
Similar to the nose, but the onset is stronger and the Nussigkeit as well as pineapple and young mango are more apparent. But again with this sulfur-like wrong note. Slightly salty. Distinct bittersweet tones.
    • Finish
The finish is mild and medium to long. The hazelnut / almonds go over into the dry. Something malty. The mineral gives a nice contrast to it. Becomes bitter soon.

    • Nose
Interesting nose some citrus some spice bread as well as a little machine oil
    • Taste
      Sweet and creamy Light bitterness
    • Finish
Gingerbread and a little chicory-like bitterness yet pleasant!

    not sure ...
    • Nose
Alcohol ... heather ... some sweet ... some smoke
    • Taste
      Alcohol ... sweet again
    • Finish
      strong and mean

Very interesting nose. Very strong in the mouth.
Tolerates water well and then becomes much milder and sweeter in the mouth.
Definitely a challenging dram that needs a lot of time.
    • Nose
Sweet and fruity. Vanilla and apricot. Then put in a fine (citrus? -) acid that gives the whole something rather exotic. Some ginger. Last, then pushes nougat and malt through.
    • Taste
Creamy mouthfeel but very strong onset with hot pepper. Prickles tidy. First spicy-nutty. Just getting sweeter. Finally, light chocolate. The fruity notes are missing with mouth completely.
    • Finish
      Long and spicy.

The macduff is more to me than the fatcairn. Overall, this is a rounder result. The finish and the actually light Brennereicharakter play together well, neither of them superimposed on the counterpart. The finish can also convince me more. Overall, a great malt for relatively little money!
    More meetings under:!
    • Nose
The nose is much fresher. As I said in the description, I have really very "bright" associations: green, yellow, the picture on the cover matches the smell. What exactly do we have here? Citrus fruits, lime. However, not pungent sour, but the aroma direction. Then something sweeter and "duller". I would say papaya. For 55%, I find the alcohol here astonishingly restrained. Overall, a bit closed, but the nose makes you want more!
    • Taste
Immediately comes a hint of citrus. Fresh, surprisingly easy, the Macduff comes along. A light acidity fits in perfectly with the notes of lime, peach. Then comes the alcoholic strength. Of course, 55% are clearly noticeable, but I feel it here as something pleasant than the nearly 53% of Fettercairn. At the end there is nougat, clear chocolate. A spicy note, but not herbs. I would say espresso. Delicious!
    • Finish
The finish says a lot more to me. This is where chocolaty, full and creamy aromas really come through. The finish is amazingly long. For a few minutes the whisky stays in the mouth. A little bitter wood notes come through here, but I find the interaction with the chocolate much better.

This Highland malt is very delicate, quite intense and impressive. Shows some similarity to the Fettercairn bottling (Sujet I), with the delicate exotic fruitiness being more present. The oaky spiciness is well balanced with the lovely sweetness and fruitiness of the madeira cask. Water shifts the balance towards spicy flavours. A well crafted single malt at a very reasonable price.I thank Arne Wesche from whic (Whiskycircle) for the sample and the photograph!
    • Nose
Exotic fruits on the nose with pineapples, mango and apricots, nicely mixed with apples and vanilla. Toffee, hints of floral notes and ginger spice in the background. The alcohol is noticeably present but not pungent.
    • Taste
Sweet and creamy on the palate with fruits, bright green grapes, malted barley and vanilla. This is immediately followed by a bold and warming spiciness of pepper, ginger and tender oak. Lingering notes of nougat and mocha towards the finish.
    • Finish
The finish is medium-long, creamy sweet and warming with pepper and spiced oak. Slightly bitter grape peel and dark chocolate on the tail.

With water: Fresher on the nose when a few drops of water are added. Plenty of vanilla and more floral notes are coming through, while the fruitiness and the alcoholic bite are both tamed. Sweet and creamy on the palate with delicate yellow fruits. Slightly warming with prickling oak and tamed spices. The finish shows medium length with creamy and fruity notes, followed by dry dark chocolate, espresso and increased oak spice.

A delicious and quite intense drop with some parallels to Fettercairn (subject I). Here, the same barrel storage becomes clear. However, the Macduff has clearer fruit notes and the slightly lemony ginger sharpness I find more pleasant than the chilli of the Fettercairn
    • Nose
Hot ginger, mango, apricot. After the ginger sharpness is through comes strong vanilla, caramelized almonds.
    • Taste
A nice creamy mouthfeel, malt, vanilla. The ginger comes after. Finally, a strong milk chocolate and a hint of pear.
    • Finish
Relatively long, sweet, slightly peppery with spicy taste
