Whisky Reviews for Bruichladdich 2008

4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 84.41 points

  1. Thermidor scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

On the nose, more austere than Bere Barley 2010, but the whole takes the cake between the two, as the taste and finish tip the scales in this one's favor.

    Tasted with 5 other Bruichladdich: Bere Barley 2010 (82 pts.), LaddieMP4 11yo (83), Elements of Islay Br5 (84), 12yo 2004 "A Dream of Scotland (82), and 13yo cask 5016 by Maltman (85).

Thanks to member GIORGOS for the sample!
    • Nose
Salty, with chamois leather, chalk, and dry, acidic citrus. Water makes it saltier, with light pineapple touches, and some grass. A dry, faint smokiness comes out. An oak cask floating in the sea. Some yeast with a bit more water.
    • Taste
A sweet attack, on lemons, bourbon, white pepper, and salted caramel. A smidgen of smoke, and a pleasantly oily, soft body. Water takes it more to the lemons, but also makes it too easygoing with these light cereal and sugar notes. Perhaps this is best neat?
    • Finish
Dried barley, and a long wave of sweet lemon.

Very pleasant and pleasing nose with hints of honey, vanilla, yeast stew and baked apple.
On the palate, the malt develops a tremendous sweetness. The already known notes from the nose can also be found here. At the end, a peppery spiciness is added.
In the finish medium-long and spicy with a subtle bitterness.

    Laddie 2008 Bere

    Nose:

This gives clear bourboncask influences, but behind that there are some farmhouse notes. But there is a lot of vanilla, fudge, and toffee here, together with quite a bit of grain notes

    Taste:

Sweet, biscuits, tad sour and some candied oranges. It feels a bit young though. There is some ginger and freshly cutted wood in the background.

    Body:

    Medium and round

    Finish:

medium length. A bit of campher, some fresh notes and a chalky hint. It fades away a tad dry and with some wood influence.

    Price:

Current price is around €65,- which I think is rather steep.
