Whisky Reviews for Bunnahabhain 1997 Wy

Like all Wemyss, very good average quality, but he would have liked to try 3-5% more for comparison.
    • Nose
Baked banana, roasted marshmallows, roasted chestnut, for me more smoked notes than BBQ (I miss a little ash), nice aromatic, smoked salmon from the Christmas market and toasted oak, heath meadow
    • Taste
Okay, definitely more BBQ-style, charred oak, papaya, avocado, dry banana chips, roasted malt, rye bread, butter biscuits, spelled biscuits, algae, charcoal, green apple, white grapefruit, some forest honey
    • Finish
Continue the tannins and the malt with some dried algae, rosemary and fennel, medium-long

Light menthol notes and a gentle Bunna smoke in the nose. The alcohol tickles the nose again and again. Hmm ... fruit notes or banana I find there only with a lot of imagination. Green apple maybe? For me rather fresh hay and a lush green meadow. Mild, slow onset, astringent ... rather unspectacular. The finish is pretty neat and long. This is definitely its strength. Conclusion: Hmmm ... that will soon be forgotten again, I'm afraid. A few turns more would have done him really well. I mourn some Chandler's Tobacco Pouch I would have liked to try ...

  3. DocF scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

That was just a first impression, but I'm a little disappointed. Generally not very intense aromas, especially not very "Bunnahabhain". For 19 years little oak.
    • Nose
Campfire smoke and greens in the nose, freshly sown meadow, not only grass, but also a lot of nettles and other stuff have been there ... Grilled banana.
    • Taste
Dry, tingling a bit, again campfire, the green stuff and the banana, later, maybe with a hint of roast flavors
    • Finish
Only slightly smoky, spicy, also light roasted aromas
