Already finished bottling, beautiful old world whisky.
    • Nose
Spicy, coal, herbs, distillery style is recognizable.
    • Taste
      Sweet full-bodied, quickly turns dry.
    • Finish
      Spicy, flat, beautiful old-fashioned whisky.

A beautiful complexity, can be drunk on its own.
    • Nose
Superb wax on the nose, mineral, iodized and at the same time earthy and humid on the foam, melted smoke that envelops everything.
    • Taste
Cereal and malty mouth, fruity on beautiful spices, old earthy peat.
    • Finish
Medicinal finish on slightly sweet old bandages.

  4. Xaver did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    I liked that very much.
    • Nose
      Blind sample:

      Colour:
      Light white wine.

      Nose:
The first nose is very dense and slightly smoky. Wax and lemon pudding. The fine smoke is more like wood stove smoke. A sweetish vanilla follows. Elder flowers and a beautiful delicate oak wood scent. I'll let it stand a bit ...
With a little time in the glass, the smoke recedes even further. A salty sweetness penetrates. I like that. Juicy lime, some ginger and a certain spice for a cake.
If he gets even more air, the colleague looks dustier. In addition something of a wet cellar.
    • Taste
Soft, slightly smoky start. Then he shows a little power and pushes. The subtly salty again. This waxy, sweet note is great. The second sip makes the colleague appear drier and there is significantly more wood. Has something similar to champagne. A bitter herbal note joins it. Dried biscuit.
    • Finish
Long. First a bit of woody spice and subtle bitterness. Then again the waxy smoke with a plume. At the very end, the slightly salty flashes again.

I am not targeting anyone. I mean that the entry models of the wineries present here are spicy chicken. Who agrees? Who is against it?
    • Nose
Suddenly delicious! Caramel rock salt-flavored popcorn is drizzled with Iberian ham oil, lemon slices and black pepper oyster shell with broth. The influence of Shirley Bourbon is five or five. Many raisins, citrus, honey fudge and yellow apricots are slightly dried in the middle, broken wheat bran and whole milk powder. A little bit of the shadow of the dirty peat with motor oil and fennel after the millennium, and finally some roasted tobacco, roasted nuts and black soil.
    • Taste
Salty cheese, fruit platter, cream cake. Basically the same smell, but less frivolous, more salt, more fat, more solid and powerful, the peat at the end is darker, showing a black and bitter bitterness.

It is full and strong, with rich fat, average sweetness, no tannins, a little astringent, bitter, no spicy.
    • Finish
Long, nut, black chocolate, peat, cheese.

    Oldschool Springbank.
    • Nose
      88 88
    • Taste
      90 90
Satter, prickelnder Antritt. Frisch gemahlener Pfeffer, geräucherter Schinken, elegante Sherrynoten, Johannisbeeren (leicht säuerlich), Kirschen, exotische Früchte, Karamell, Orangenschalen, Schokolade, geröstetes Malz und Eichenwürze. Sehr ölig, vielschichtig und komplex.
    • Finish
      89 89
Lang, süß-würzig und rauchig. Sherry, Exotische Früchte, geräucherter Schinken, Schokolade, Lakritz, Karamell, süßer Pfeifentabak, Eiche und getrocknete Orangenschalen. Leicht trockener werdend.

Quite aggressive at nose. So much that you hardly recognise the Springbank DNA.

With water the dram becomes mild and soften. Calming it down on a strong grass base.

Rocks and salt on mouth, feel winter time, watching the ocean during a storm.

Strong finish but not too long

In my opinion maturation in cask was a troubled one and just with water you start feeling the real soul of this batch.

[February, 2012]  I had this dram during a "Springbank" tasting at Bonn.

    In
my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5.  My notes state water improves it.

    WITH WATER

On the nose I now get Christmas cake and the palate still has that lovely spice. It is also creamy with the sherry coming through more.

This really is far to easy to drink at full strength or with water, just excellent.
    • Nose
      (sample)
      Meaty, spicy, rich blackcurrants.
    • Taste
      Spicy peat, sherry, smoked ham.
    • Finish
Long, soothing, very easy drinking for 57%.
