    Tasted blind
    • Nose
      90 90
      Smells really tasty!
Preserved plums with cinnamon, Amarena cherries, caramel, oak seasoning. Grain mash and a little alcohol also shimmer through.
All aromas are discreetly present - a little O2 emphasizes them more clearly.
    • Taste
      87 87
The alcohol is too strong for me, so I diluted it to about 48%.
Also here a mix of plum / cherry, malt sweetness, a little caramel, & spice from the barrel.
Mild & balanced / no burning
      Light to medium body.
    • Finish
      85 85
The finish is fruity - malty with oak and light bitterness with a medium length.

Herbs and fruits soaked in aged aromatic honey. Sappy and waxy tropical fruitiness, pine resin, old leather books and antique furnitures polished with sherry wax, if this could exhist. Great vintages these 1972 glengoynes. Great vintage for the whole of Scottland..magic was in the air in 1972!

sergeIndependent Glengoynes are very rare, not sure I’ve ever seen more than two or
three before. Colour: pale gold. Nose: an avalanche of honey and tinned
pineapples! Many (great) old Glengoynes that I could try were much more
influenced by the casks whilst this is as fruity and pleasantly, say ‘ethereal’
as malt whisky can get. Yet, there is some vanilla and there are some soft
spices but the extreme ‘light honeyness’ is spectacular. Develops more on
sultanas and plum jam. With water: gets rather more tropical, with notes of pina
colada, that is to say more coconut and pineapples. Superb, with an extreme
freshness. Having said that, it has a tendency to fade away a bit. Mouth: very
oily, almost thick, starting on sultanas and crystallised pineapple, with quite
some honey again and just touches of pine resin sweets. The spiciness is bigger
than on the nose, with some pepper, ginger and hints of cloves. Extremely
more-ish when neat. Nougatine. With water: a tad closer to the OB now, with more
notes of orange blossom water, tangerine liqueur, coconut liqueur and a little
green pepper. Finish: rather long, the citrus notes managing to balance the
oakiness that starts to emerge. Comments: absolutely gorgeous but too drinkable,
whilst there are only 305 bottles! The sherry influence is extremely discreet,
to be honest, I did not quite notice it.

An excellent whisky with an exceptional nose and a very nice finish too ... very sweet, not especially marked by sherry ... I loved it and do not regret my purchase ...
    • Nose
Very expressive and beautiful balance with alcohol, coconut, leather, orange marmalade, candied fruit, develops more waxy notes, honey ... a little lemon ... really a superb nose, marked by a subtle sherry totally integrated into the whole ... I love ...
    • Taste
Palate: spicy, on honey, ginger, trace of exotic fruits in the background with a little water ... less complex than the nose ...
    • Finish
Again on the spices, old waxed furniture, beeswax, orange, honey, precious wood ... beautiful length ...

    A lost sherry bottling :)
... at least the sherry hides from me, so that I have difficulties to find it.
Must have been a very good cask.
    Nice, pleasant and ... expensive.
    • Nose
This one does not look like it has spent 36 years in a sherry butt. Must have been a refill sherry butt. Warming but less intensive than the other two MoS Glengoynes.
Oranges, dried apricots and white coffee. Butterfingers ... tasty.
    • Taste
Warming, balanced and clean. Sweet and fruity. Almost no oaky notes and that after 36 years!

Mirabelles and cake mixture made with eggs and lots of butter ... and ... rum ... but the sherry is hidden.
    • Finish
Long, pleasant and becoming slightly dry after some time. No new flavor evolutions. Not oaky at all.
