hs305 gave this whisky 86 points

[May, 2017]  I had this dram during a Springbank Masterclass tasting at the Campbeltown whisky festival.

This one matured completely in a 1st fill port hogshead and was one of the official festival releases of Springbank.  While all other festival bottles sold out in less than 30 minutes (people queued up hours before already) this was still available after the festival.  Guess why? (Hint:  It was sold for 250 GBP!)

The colour is tawny and the texture shows very late slow legs and sticky tears.  The nose is very sweet, port-winey and extremely drying (old papers) as well as sour (balsamico).  It arrives in the mouth nicely coating and neither hot nor peppery but a little dry (tobacco ashes).  The taste is dominated by a delicious milk chocolate flavour but unfortunately some unpleasant bitter notes pop up (tannins).  The finish is of medium length and more sugary, but again a little drying (tobacco ashes) as was the first mouthfeel.

An interesting bottling of course, but not my favourite style of a dram (I like the recent standard 21year old better).  And it is way too expensive, as a drinker I would not pay more than 80 Euro for such a bottle...
