waxy. Perfect balance between spices - gluttony (chocolate, caramel, maple syrup) and freshness (slightly iodized, green apple, kiwi). Very nice complexity
    • Taste

very brief, succinct attack. The palate is very limpid, like water. It lacks texture and does not keep its promises.

And then surprise. A few moments later a warm atmosphere invades the palas with notes of burnt oak, candied fruit, coffee

Full on dark chocolate, double espresso, and the typical PX sweetness. Intense and thick Gula Melaka (Coconut Palm Sugar from Malaysia). Some dusty sherry notes, chocolate syrup and treacle. Really sweet. Some fermented soy sauce appears after a few sips.
    • Taste
      86 86
Lots of dried fruits (raisins, figs, prunes) with a salty thang. Slight tannin, with some minty notes. More raisins and prunes when you hold it in your mouth. Lots of cask action as well.
    • Finish
      86 86
Rather dry, with dark chocolate, black coffee, soya milk.

Delicious sherry malt. There is not much left of Glenrothes though. But really a very good sherry bomb, which carries a decent age and thus simply offers more than U10-year-old sherry monster.
    • Nose
A little wet pencil. Maggi. Then dark sherry. Sweetish, yet tart and sour. Red berries. Blueberry. Blackberry. Raspberry. Sloe. Magenbrot. Implied mushrooms. Leather. If anything, then the Brennereicharakter of Glenrothes is still to be guessed.
    • Taste
In the mouth now sweeter and juicier overall. Red fruit jelly. Red multivitamin juice. Plum cake. Now it gets a bit drier. Chocolate with raisins. Oak spice and it starts to tingle. Also comes through a slight sharpness.
    • Finish
Tobacco. Coffee. Some plum jam. Fermented grapes. Maybe some eraser.

Intense PX sherry whisky that is very balance without being to sweet. It’s intense nose and taste make it feels like its alot older than the age suggested!
    • Nose
Intense PX sherry, dusty leather, old damp wood, dark fruits, raisin, double mints, melted toffee, thick oily molasses syrup. Smells so much older than 19 years old, feels like an extra old XO cognac! After a sip, fremented dark soy beans, cooked barley, and sour berries!
    • Taste
Again, intense and oily PX sherry! Tongue coating dark fruits, saltiness of very light soy sauce, perfume of old wet oak, in the middle with raisin, dry figs sweetness. All ends perfectly with the freshness of mints with a little bit of dark chocolate. The best part? No sulfur, and no modern sherried whisky spiciness!
    • Finish
Medium, with mouthful of mint freshness, oily tongue coating dark fruits sweetness, and dark chocolate chocolatiness!

N- Promising start, fermented bean, soy sauce and ipa bitter sweet, hoppy. Open up to more sandalwood, sweet brown rock sugar with more soy interplay with the expected dark fruits, raisin and banana. Subtle hop and resin linger on.

P- A winning and finely weighted texture from a single cask, as sometime it may be a wee heavy on a SC PX, but not this one. Remains sexily slender, but carrying with it the spicy, rich and bitter chocolate at heart, hefty oak for a wild mouthfeel.

F- Long, smooth and warming, finish with tart chewy dried fruits and rich chocolate. Not as versatile and swim well on neat, may try with water to unlock more.

Nose: As was to be expected with this deep dark color, the fermented sherryoten are immediately present. Strawberry jam, toffee, vanilla and Danish pastries. Some gunpowder and tobacco make a nice harsh contrast. Horny, yes horny nose Palate: The alcohol is perfectly integrated, a water addition is not needed here. At the beginning it is creamy and sweet on the tongue, gradually leathery, musty -herer tobacco notes and red, fermented fruit come forward. He does not seem overly heavy, but is still rather a whisky for the cold season, even if a slight Mentholfrische now and then flashes. Departure: peppery heat warms the cheeks, salivation and tannic dryness fight for the priority in the mouth, the sweet sherry mood remains eternal. Subtle bitter espresso notes complete an excellent mouthfeel Rating: For some time now I did not have any of these 1997 Sherry whiskys from the house of Glenrothes in the glass. 1 to 2 years ago, the market was flooded with these deep dark sherry grenades, they were all good to very good whisky, but all were quite similar. Today I am once again enthusiastic about this bottling, but every day I could not drink it, especially not in the summer, it is rather a whisky for cold winter evenings by the fireplace. For me at the level of the 1997 bottlings of whisky casks, which I liked equally well, perhaps a tick weaker, since in my memory a little less voluminous than the WID: 96844 from the whisky barrel. But a wonderful and surprisingly complex sherry malt without sulfur notes with a fantastic nose. 90 points
