    Note by producer;

Twelve casks of seven different types have been deployed by Adam Hannett in his crafting of a limited edition Port Charlotte called ‘TRANSPARENCY’ which has been released to visitors to BRUICHLADDICH DAY on 28TH May 2017.

Port Charlotte ‘TRANSPARENCY’ is a heavely peated Islay single malt Scotch whisky created for Feis Ile 2017.

Twelve casks of seven different types have been deployed by Head Distiller Adam Hannett in his crafting of this fascinating, limited edition.

All the spirit used was distilled using 100% Scottish barley and it was matured entirely on Islay. It has been bottled at the distillery at 56.4% alc. vol. using just a splash of Islay spring water. In common with all our whiskies, there has been no chill filtration employed and no artificial colouring has been added.

One thousand individually numbered bottles have been made available. Each carries the unique five digit batch code. Entering this batch code into the field provided on this product page will provide owners with details of the cask recipe used.

Bottles will be made available for sale, to distillery visitors only, during ‘Laddieday’ on Sunday 28th May 2017.
It promises to be a great day. (..and it was..;-)

Enthusiasm: Nose 3/5 Mouth and finish: 4/5
    Whisky n ° 1520
    • Nose
Beautiful vanilla, rich peat and malt. A dusty side, old cellar. Of honey. The whole thing is quite frontal. The more time passes, the more the malt emerges, and the more it is fresh, greedy. With a little water, an earthy side appears accompanying cereals and honey.
    • Taste
Mordant spices, peat, honey. Everything is very balanced. Softer with water.
    • Finish
Peppery. Intense and persistent. The water brings even more length to extend the experience.

Absolutely my thing this Port Charlotte.
    • Nose
Typical port charlotte character, aromatic smoke with light bacon, very vinous touch, bananas and grapes, with the time a bit ashy, but ashen creamy sweet - great combination, cotton candy
    • Taste
Creamy sweet smoke, slightly sourish grapes, again a bit ashy paired with the oak spice, a bit brittle like Ahoi-Brause, very pleasant and exciting
    • Finish
Complex finish, already warming, you will find everything at once: vinous, creamy sweet, vanilla, the aromatic smoke

  5. Donwaldorf scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

A PC of good quality, close to a Laphroaig in the mouth. Nothing innovative despite everything.
    • Nose
Pretty smoke / peat almost cheese. There are cooked fruits (citrus?). The whole is very saline with a hint of iodine.
    • Taste
Smoke / peat saline and spicy (a green and young side). There is camphor, a touch medicinal too. The alcohol is rather lively.
    • Finish
Nice length, on the wood, the big spices, the pepper and the saline peat.

Bright, sweet, rich and concentrated whisky.
    • Nose
      88 88
Plums, grapes and apricots smoked in the smoke, on which the ashes from the burnt wood have settled, a little grape marshmallow.
    • Taste
      88 88
Sharp (softer and rounder with water), sweet, with smoky technical notes, dried fruits.
    • Finish
      87 87
Sweet, with the same profile of smoked dried fruits.

very good quality, shame about the very low quantity produced and hence the high price
    • Nose
smoke, yeast, grains, salt, stewed fruits, wine, oranges, metallic, minerals, elegant wood, light peat/grass
    • Taste
rich stewed red fruits, elegant aromatic wood, cloves, spices, varnish, chocolate, marzipan, smoke, spicy, light grass and peat
    • Finish
long, spicy, dry, varnish, stewed fruits, fresh grains, aromatic oranges, long aromatic wood finish followed by minerals, metallic notes and orange marmalade

Quality spirit, slightly congested with lots competing on the nose. I like it but it seems a little over blended and lacks the guts and umph of some PC's
    • Nose
Initially smoke and cereal notes, the smoke develops on tar and peat. Lots of sweet fruits, almost like tinned fruit cocktail. Some fusty vanilla, a little wood spice and citrus notes and dried fruits waft in and out again. More tinned fruit - apricots? And then indeterminate savoury perhaps artichoke? Rather restless and doesnt settle. A little sherry and other fortified wine influence after 10 minutes, some red fruits and a dustiness.
    • Taste
Very sweet and quite cloying. Smoke peat and dried fruits. Gets bigger. Becomes drying and more cereal notes. Wood is there but not slapping you in the face. Very clean and easy to drink without water. Some citrus.
    • Finish
Long on smoke and peat. Quite sweet (barley sugar) but also drying and leaves me wanting more. Seriously easy to drink.
