Laphroaig 1999 - 2017, 17 years. "Dance of Dove and Dram at De Librije", 59.1% alc. Bottler: The Scotch Malt Whisky Society. Expansion: Ex-Bourbon-Hogshead (refill), barrel no. 29,214.

Nose: rustic and smoky, very strong step. Some seaweed, flotsam and peat, very briefly some iodine. Behind it a clear sweetness comes to light, some mandarin, apricot and pineapple, the smoke wonderfully integrates the sweet fruit aromas. Malt and vanilla can also be found, but only very little. The smoke and the sweetness dominate quite clearly.

Palate: Strong and very oily, smoky sweetness. Some peat smoke, briefly some disinfectant, iodine and again the aromas of the sea. Seaweed, smoked fish and strong apricot. The smoke becomes heavier and spreads throughout the mouth, in addition there are slightly bitter oak wood and spices, and dry cocoa powder.

Finish: very long, warming. The sweetness shows up again, the smoke lingers for a very long time. Smoker, smoke from damp wood, tobacco.

Conclusion. Wonderful Laphroaig. With its almost 60% alc. it numbs all the senses, after which you can hardly drink any other whisky. But you don't have to. 87/100 points (tasted in 2021).

A 17-year-old Laphroaig with almost 60% alcohol content. As single cask in cask strength. A very nice drop, which I liked very much. At the second sip, the oral cavity has become accustomed to alcohol and fruits and spices find their way unhindered. • Nose
The typical scent of a Laphroaig is in my nose. Fresh sea breeze with salt and seaweed. I am standing in the bay of Laphroaig. However, a little sweeter and not as rough as a Quarter Cask. The smoke has a slight greasiness. Behind it flash fruity notes of pineapple and oranges. A nice spice with a little vanilla. In between, a hint of gherkins was just passing by. Tobacco.
    • Taste
He has a lot of power. The tongue is deaf for now. In the mouth oily sweetness spreads. Smoke. The coast is back. But also sweet fruits and strong spices. The Cranachan I can empathize with a lot of imagination.
    • Finish
Pepper and long. The smoke is very present.

    SMWS Tasting Note

The nose is perfectly balanced musical synthesis-peat smoke bass notes, a sweet (coconut ice cream) melody on strings, fruity brass section blasts of pineapple and orange and interweaving  woodwind strains of herbs and spices(cinnamon, quinine, Barolo Chinato). The palate repeats the structure,  but with the volume up high powerful  smoke, maple syrup, honey and custard sweetness, rum soaked dark fruits and Cranachan, with the herbal note shifting more towards  the sea-shore. With a drop of water, the mouth experience is as balanced as a ballet dancer, a rhapsody in booze-all it needs is the right food to turn it into a dance- a table-top tango, a culinary conga- a Chattanooga chew-chew and a cha-cha-cha.
