    [June, 2017]  I had this dram during the Feis at Bowmore disillery and later during a Feis Ile tasting at Bonn.

    This is very quaffable stuff and a nice dram for christmas time - more of such editions please, Bowmore!
    • Nose
      89 89
      The colour is tawny and the texture shows just slow legs and tears. The nose is very winey and reminds me of old Ben Nevis from the sixties/early seventies: It owns this adorable "rum pot" profile with raisins, cinnamon, plums, cherries and many more.

      The taste again is very sweet winey with raisins, the Bowmore trademark currants and some spices (peppers, nutmegs, a hint of salt). Water is not needed as the whole dram gets unpleasantly bitter (like so often with heavily sherried whiskies).

      The mouthfeel is warming and a little coating (could be more) but slightly astringent from heavy tannins (wine drinkers know this from Bordeaux barrique wines). The finish is sweet and of medium length and gets a little bitter at the end (tannins, but not too bad).

    This is a really nice drinking whisky for a great price! The alcohol is almost unnoticeable, no note dominates or slays. Plus, it's enough to keep you busy for a long time without boredom.

      Color is inbetween Tawny and Brown Sherry but tending more to the darker side

      Dark caramel and roasted aromas immediately. Then noble brandy, pickled fruits, plums, cherries a very tender ethereal note, such as black tea mixed with mint tea, honey-sweetened. Far back some leather and freshly cleaned linoleum. Warms lighter, juicier and, above all, more fruity, almonds or marzipan, cocoa, now also some barrel acid. The smoke is mild and well integrated at all times, in general the nose is very harmonious.

      Starts incredibly mild and soft, a lot of dark honey, but not overly sweet, the power comes slowly, viscous, slightly salty, a nice woody note also develops, towards the back it dries increasingly.

      The finish is warming, further drying, and is also quite long on the tongue.

    Delicious malt. You could estimate that a few years older. Of course, sherry and wine are already dominant here and this also dampens the smoke a bit, but that fits well and doesn't look fake.

      Yup. There is a lot of sherry and wine involved. Plum jam. Red fruit jelly. With brittle. Black tea. Roasted notes. A little tobacco. The typical Bowmore smoke looks a little dirtier than usual here.

      For the age and the strength of alcohol pleasant to start with and yet powerful. A mix of sweetness and spice. Burnt wine gum. Little forest floor and wine cellar. Floral wood smoke.

      Rotten wood. Dark chocolate with nuts. Herber fruit tea.

    A pretty sherry board, Interressant it's the age. It tastes and smells old, but it is so strong that it could also have young and a lot of oak. Great whisky, the smoke is subordinate to the sherry board.

      Very spicy, very complex, sherry, rather dry, very spicy oak, some sulfur, a hint of smoke, fruity, cherry, but also some cooked root vegetables. Exciting. Something sweet with water, but not much different.
    • Taste
      In the mouth then quite strong, pepper, sherry, a lot of wood, a slightly musty fruitiness. With water a bit bitter, the oak is quite dominant, a real board.
    • Finish
      Tart, spicy, sherry, oak, slightly sour bitterness, dark chocolate, some tobacco, long. Gentle with water, wood and beautiful sherry notes, some smoke.

    Very pleasant drink at the end of the day.

      A deep walnut smell in a light smoke. Honey sweet. The wine influence seems to take down the sharp edges of the alcohol. After 10 minutes the fruits (cherries and raisins) are taking over the power of the walnuts.

      Very warming and sweet with light oak tannins and spices. (pepper, cinnamon and ginger). Light oily - creamy but not over the top. Everything in good balance.
    • Finish
      Good medium finish, sweet and slightly bitter with a pinch of salt in the end.

      Full and strong. Heavy sweetness. Ripe cherries. Walnuts. The smoke is perfectly integrated. Great nose!

      Bowmore's maritime notes meet sherry sweetness and red wine notes. Very impressive and extremely tasty for me.

      Long and sweet.

    Overall, sweet and oily. The Bordeaux barrels come out only at the end, otherwise dominate the sherry aromas. Tasty and tasty, but not very complex.

    After 10 minutes in the glass lots of toffee, nuts, mixed fruits inc raisins, currants and some mixed peel. Some woodc spices and damp dunnage aromas. wafts of something salty and maritime. 

    Initially quite sweet on brown sugar caramel and raisins, some leather and then rather drying as peat smoke and wood asserts.

    Nose: This is clearly a sweet sort of whisky, and not very surprising if you look at the cask profile : First of all there’s a nice chocolate feeling to it, with some Bon-bons infused with cherry liquor, some golden syrup, sherry, and a lovely smokiness under the fruit, white pepper and maybe a touch of clove, and berry jam.

    Palate: Milk chocolate up front, red and black berry in liquor, some berry jam too, there’s a lovely touch of salt as well, which balances nicely those sweet-ish flavours, we’re on Islay after all, aren’t we? A touch of wood, and pepper, make up for a lovely palate.

    Finish: Blackcurrant Jam , chocolate , cocoa and a certain vinous touch to it (hey, it’s a wine cask matured whisky)
