[August, 2017]  From time to time I try a bourbon whiskey simply to check if my taste has changed (so far I did not like bourbon as it is somehow too one-dimensional and oak-driven to me).  This one got a Marsala cask finish which at least sounds quite interesting.

To be honest, my taste did not change and still I do not like these full oak-driven bourbon style whiskies/whiskeys...  Too bad that many Scottish distilleries have to go for this profile too (simply out of despair due to the cask shortage crisis in the actual whiskey boom phase).  Nevertheless I know and acknowledge there is a growing number of bourbon whiskey lovers and that is great (as it increases my chances to get a good Scotch at a reasonable price in the future...just joking!).

The colour is tawny and the texture shows early and quite fast legs and a few late tears only. The nose is typically bourbonish with tons of oak-driven flavours and very little sweet wine aromas only - sorry, but this not my style! Nevertheless for a bourbon whiskey this is not too bad...
    • Taste
      82 82
The taste is on a nice combo of bourbon and wine flavours that are heavily contained by strong wooden notes. That is exactly why most people love bourbon whiskey "on the rocks" (you know, cooling kills most of the flavours - just try a red wine out of the refrigerator and you will know what I mean).
    • Finish
      80 80
It arrives in the mouth warming but not coating and with significant drying-astringent moments (tannins, cardboardy, papers). No, still I do not like that! The finish is long and very woody again but shows a nice sweet winey aftertaste. Water smoothes both the nose and taste and makes this dram much more accessible (2 points up).

This has a really pleasant nose and the palate is packed with flavour but I just find it hot.
So it's ok and drinkable but it has a metallic aftertaste which loses it points.
