2021-04-12: unfortunately cannot convince compared to typical Islay standards
    • Nose
      81 81

    • Taste
      80 80
somewhat flat and slightly bitter, few facets

an Islay NAS in single malt!
nose with specific markers peat fat and citrus more spices!
a little woody too and a bacon sensation
on the palate, it is rather strong spices, peppery, it is fat peat, and meat meat, smoked bacon, or smoked herring, but there is also bitterness, it's young
final rather short however with a mixture of scents described above, it lacks character, good starting dram!

Faultless but also entirely undistinctive young-ish peated whisky. Not bad, but for roughly the same price, I'd rather get a ten-year-old Ardbeg or Laphroaig.
Nose: olive brine, saltiness, smoked fish.
Taste: All of the above plus some aspartame sweetness.
Finish: sweet barley water and residual cold ashtray smoke. No discernible oak whatsoever.
This is too watered down; the strength (46 %) feels more like 40 %. Rather tame.

  7. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Can compete quite well with Ardbeg 10, Laphi 10, Caol Ila 12, ~ 35 € motivate but not exactly to grab a noname NAS as an alternative, for example, the colleagues Ileach & Finlaggan are there as much modest (even down to the 40% ).
    • Nose
strong smoke, not phenolic, not ashy, not greasy, rather sweet, caramel, white chocolate, a splash of lemon
    • Taste
the spill on the sample bottle tastes like watery Laphroaig ;-) ... out of the glass: strong smoke, burnt-bittersweet, oily-creamy mouthfeel, caramel-dessau sauce, slightly hot, initially thinner than 46%, developed after a few sips but good mouthfeel
    • Finish
medium long, smoky, bitter chocolate, pepper

Tasted at World of Drinks Zierikzee in a 7 whisky tasting.

This one followed a 68,7% abv dram. I think this didn't benefit the Cask Islay 2017 very well. Taste and finish seemed somewhat thin (I still have a first release present somewhere).
