Very solid piece of work! Honeyforward, but extremely well balanced 18 year old blend. One of my favorites outside of Campbeltown
    • Nose
      87 87
Citrus, honey, green apples dominates. Background with vanilla and light fruits, faint fusible note and hints of rubber/leather. Not all casks have been polite here, but it just adds to the complexity of the nose and I enjoy it
    • Taste
      88 88
Quite austere at first sip, but it really settles nicely with water and time in the glass. Sweet and honeyforward at first, then it dries up with citrus and bitter notes. Green apples are there as well. Creamy, really nice texture
    • Finish
      85 85
Sweetness quickly fades, bitterness prevails and lingers quite long

I had paid 64€ and I am very happy about that. Admittedly, these notes are not entirely objective, as I am known to be a blend lover. So I have to be careful with the grading so as not to digress. I have a shelf, there are whiskeys with "the special impression". He'll be there from now on and rightly so. A special PLV (18 years). A special experience. A special blend. As I said: "For me anyway"... ;)) ...because I'm a passionate hobby blender. That's why I know this league very well.
    • Nose
The nose has become special. I like it a lot. Floral vanilla with lots of lemongrass. Some butter biscuits with lots of honey served on a new linen cloth. That makes your mouth water. A very inviting nose that really provokes sipping. Well then... let's go. ;))
    • Taste
According to a blend wonderfully inviting, round and soft, but ... not timid. Friends, it's strong...almost like a malt. The alcohol is just right for my palate. Slightly minerally sweet, it forms an even tropical blend with lots of citrus notes and grainy grassy notes. Peppery orange notes with a salty accent remain in the transition. Wow.
    • Finish
For a medium length of time, he announces the farewell with Blender pride. Spicy, tart and dry sweet, it slowly lets go. Friends: If you want to pour a good dram carefree, you should access it here. Because this blend is at the forefront when it comes to a lot of whiskey for little money. And please note: It has a proud "18" on the label. My respects to Douglas Laing. honest bottle.

A huge surprise for me, two times over. The first time is a not very full-bodied aroma that gives little memory effect, after which I thought it was an unnecessary waste of money for buying this whiskey and I regret that I did not buy a sample first. The second time is a feast ....

The taste and finish were completely compensated by my experience and the appetite I had for this whiskey from the very beginning.
The fruitiness, smoothness and, above all, the unusual aftertaste, as well as the desire to pour another portion again, raised both my assessment and the delight on the palate. I recommend.

as if the individual sensations disappeared in the mixture, indistinct but interesting in the aroma, somewhat flat and uniform in taste
    • Nose
      86 86
green apples, malt, buns, pear pie, pepper, fresh pastries, peach, honey yogurt, mango, apricots, chewing gum, fresh vanilla, aloe vera, a hint of pineapple and banana, cucumber, flowers
    • Taste
      80 80
balanced but flatter, one has to look hard, surprisingly sharper, apricots, a trace of banana, nutmeg, oak dust at the end
    • Finish
      82 82
initially slightly bitter, malt wood, cherries, dark chocolate, sweet tomato, honeydew

I gave this over 40 minutes to open in the glass as this is from a newly opened bottle.

Aroma: Honey, orange, light mango/tropical fruit, apple, notes of lightly toasted wood/previously burnt incense, dried apricots, apples and pears (the dried fruit became increasingly forward with time).
Flavor: Honey, orange, baked apple, toasted grain, dried mango/tropical fruit, brown sugar,
Finish: Brown sugar, light toasted malt, honey, apple, pear, a light cinnamon spice, some prickly heat.

A balanced, well-blended Speyside that shows off a range of fruit aromas and flavors. I normally prefer a bit oilier, richer dram, but this works well for summer. Water brings out more sweetness and some mouthcoating oils.

1444) Timorous Beastie, 18YO, Bottled 2017, Limited Edtion, Remarkable Regional Malts - Highland, Douglas Laing

N- Full-blown ripe orchard fruits of apples, peaches and pears comes fore eagerly, then creamy papaya for texture, then feel the layer of spicy zests. Elegant salty dried fruits that always pleasing and alluring to the nose, with subtle mineral waving along. Classily integrated fresh and dried fruits. (91/22)

P- Oak honey with good doses of dried fruits that dances at the background. Well restrained spiciness that just gives a comfy layer of warmness on the palate, ginger candy. It may appeared simple and direct, but with utmost quality, superbly blended with with skill..or by accident? (93/23)

F- Medium long, fine malt that lingers with occasion notes of plums. A sunny day at the garden with various fruits, gingers, honey chirping away like a small flocks of passing birds. (89/22)

    • Nose
Fruity. Who said “Aren’t you able to give more precisions, dude?” ???? Ok, we’ve got here sweet armoas of apples, apricots and prunes, alright dude? ????
    • Taste
Still, logically, on something fruity, mainly with apples. And some gourmet pastry notes, rather biscuits actually. With a touch of vanilla and spices, like cinnamon.
    • Finish
Medium lenght, remaining, with a great pleasure, on cinnamon and vanilla.

So for me there is no difference to the TB without age. On the contrary. Clear alcohol notes. Too bad.
    • Nose
      Honey, flower meadow, grape
    • Taste
The honey stays, but a light alcohol burning
    • Finish
Lemon, seasoning, but strangely too alcoholic

I’m not a huge fan of the regualr Beastie. This one was a good deal better thanks to the aging, but still suffers from the problem that a few of these regional malts have, they cross off all the boxes you’d expect from a malt from whatever region they’re from but don’t really have anything that defines them as unique. Add to this the slightly watery palate on this and it’s definitely a pass for me.

Tasted at a Malt Mongers Israel evening.
    • Nose
Straw. Sweets. Gooseberries. Icing sugar. Marmalade. Toast.
    • Taste
A bit thin feeling. Meaty fruit notes. Barley cream. Herbal honey
    • Finish
Medium. Malt. Sour. Butter wood. Stewed fruits. Woodspice.

Blind Notes! Super PLV and looks like a nice barrel - not like a blend - currently € 67 a bargain
    • Nose
at first a bit stubborn with bitter metal - so we leave him - later super clean, really lots of vanilla, hints of flowers, orange, lemon with honey, mango, butter cream, lots of light oak, freshly peeled branches, fresh cut boards in the sun , sweet grass, the nose looks very noble - that is not only free of false notes - that has something
    • Taste
slightly sour, dry oak, fresh - spicy dry and all with a nice splash of lemon, lemon balm and mint, pineapple, apple slices with custard, while chewing laurel, allspice and a hint of nutmeg, it has a certain power - the alcohol is pleasantly noticeable
    • Finish
rather dry - astringent, pleasant tart woody, citric, mint, rosemary sharpness

I had the two, three times "on the side" tried and so mentally in mind "jo, very nice, tasty, but for 80 ¬'s back and front not enough." I'm not so sure anymore - I enjoy the damn delicious, the mouse we always sympathize.
    • Nose
Tropifrutti - grapefruit, pineapple, half green banana, lime, later a little vanilla, cereals, mild white pepper, also a bit salty-mineral - very nice
    • Taste
creamy banana, canned peach, vanilla, white chocolate, butter biscuits, later milk chocolate, mild black pepper, very tasty
    • Finish
medium to long, herbaceous-sweet (not quite Ricola, but so the direction), chocolate, slightly spicy so'n a mixture of pepper / clove / cinnamon in mild)

A blended malt with whisky from Dalmore, Blair Athol & Glen Garioch. You got to respect DL for that abv.
    N: Mineral biscuit herbal.
    T: General rounded niceness.
F: Slightly over-baked raisin cereal bars.
    C: A decent start to the Midlands Festival 2017.Scores a C+

Quite a powerful blended Highland malt. Good balance of sweetness, luscious yellow fruits and warming spiciness with a reasonable complexity. Needs time to develop its full flavour profile. Pleasantly drinkable both neat and diluted. The brave younger brother of the outstanding 40 yo Beastie!I thank Douglas Laing for the sample and the photograph! https://www.whisky-connaisseur.de/tasting-notes-english/blended-malt-whiskies/
    • Nose
The nose starts off with a pleasant fruitiness of apricots, white peaches and subtle bananas. This is underlined with a decent vanilla sweetness and lemon sorbet. Hints of honey and a touch of floral notes in the background. Mellow and very appealing!
    • Taste
Lovely sweet on the palate with vanilla, honey and lingering fruits - peaches, pineapples and bananas.  This is complemented with a warming spiciness of black pepper, along with a touch of cinnamon and crisp oak towards the finish. Nice and tasty!
    • Finish
The finish shows medium length with a lingering mix of sweet vanilla and honey notes, along with pepper, spiced oak and subtle cinnamon. Slightly dry on the tail.

With water: Fresh and clean on the nose when water is added. Increased fruitiness of white peaches, apricots and pineapples, nicely mixed with fresh lemon sorbet. Quite sweet and fruity on the palate while the warming spiciness is tamed a bit. Less black pepper with honey and cinnamon towards the finish. The finish is medium long with creamy honey, vanilla, subtle cinnamon and prickling oak on the tail.

I would've welcomed a bit more complexity, especially on the palate, but overall a very good blended malt by the people over at Douglas Laing.
    • Nose
Mellow and inviting with some light minerals, but also sweet banana, white grapes and soft honey notes. Also a hint of apricots, maybe even some nectarine and lemon peel. A touch of burlap.
    • Taste
Mouth-coating. Sweet cotton candy with honey and vanilla. There are some light spices, they liven up the palate a bit. Cinnamon and cracked black pepper.
    • Finish
Lingers on spices, slowly transforming back to sweeter notes. Medium in length.
