I can only compare it with a 15 year old release. And here it is very strange that everything spoils the taste. It's more intense and concentrated than the 15 year old release. But a strange and unexpected perfume smears all the colors and throws off the whole balance! :(

    • Nose
A: oh yes! It's Springbank! A lot of malt, tobacco, the same tropical fruits, cherry stone with a shank, heated gum and associated smoky aromatics, sulphurous and pleasantly burning receptors of this sulfur, woody-papery notes, bread crumb
    • Taste
Aroma notes are copied, but without tropical fruits, but with sulfur content, malt, cherries, smoke of resinous fruit trees, the taste is wonderful, but rather distinct perfumery, bread sourness, which is not in harmony with the profile, confuses,
    • Finish
Astringent, tart, cherry-stone bitterness, cardboard, tannins and phenols of wood, not too complex, unlike a 15-year-old counterpart, nevertheless very long

Woody oak and cherry flavour. A little to heavy towards the sherry side for me. Nice to try this variation on the SB theme, but I wouldn’t score it any higher or lower than the standard 10yo.

I haven't tried SB18 since 2012, I think, but based on my memory it hasn't changed that much, even though I find it more pleasant now than then. Still, I'm afraid that, as often with SB for me, I find the average score on this bottle too high.
    • Nose
Flinty smoke, with an odd sweetness to it. Sandpaper, chalk, lemon juice.
    • Taste
Some musty old clothes, flinty peatiness, with a solid and good body. I like how they do peat, but some more complexity would be nice.
    • Finish
An abrupt, dry-ish finish that tickles the gums with chalk and somewhat raking peat. This is a bit tough for me, but better than the chalky sandiness I recall from a 2011 bottle I've tried earlier.

  6. Palindrome scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

This release was a bit too fusty and musty to earn higher than an 86 in my book. Dunnage warehouse effluvium can be fun, but not so much in this case. One or two grotty casks threw off the batch.

Very nice single paints. Unbelievably versatile without being too overwhelming.
Great flavors with beautifully integrated alcohol. Fits everything and does not get boring.
