Ranking: 1st nose and finish, 2nd mouth I'm pretty excited because I did not expect so much from a 13y Caol Ila such a young Caol Ila and already with PE effect great introduction to the new Fassstark.de forum congratulations
    • Nose
directly after pouring without movement Smoke, cold ashes, slight gum, sweet fruit, cucumber water
later with movement Wood ash, burnt gum, sweet and sour, sweet vanilla caramel pervaded with cool ashy notes, apricots in sour cucumber water with herbs, a floral note Wow, a PE nose and oily legs
    • Taste
silky onset, smoky ashes, tart - sweet, oak, vanilla fruit, chocolate powder on the palate, very powerful, butterscotch in spicy ash, between all a clear floral note, pepper, comes back some cucumber water with chocolate powder In the mouth he is still powerful young with beautiful approaches of Fassreife I could spit fire now :)
    • Finish
long lots of barrel chocolate, alternating dry and moist, sweet chewing tobacco, still smoky but softer, smoky warm ash a very full aromatic finish - a PE finish

A great Caol Ila! Fruity and sweet, smoky and maritime, all I expect from a good Islay whisky is present with this great drop. A truly tasty whisky, even pleases me as confessed Sherrytunte very well!
    • Nose
Golden yellow, deep-dark straw colors and brilliantly clear, the Caol Ila shines in the glass. Oily and tough streaks stick to the glass wall while the intense smoke is already from a distance smelling. The first nosing immediately sets cold ashes in the nose. Fruity aromas like apples and bananas penetrate through the cold column of smoke, the more I smell it, the more the fruity banana aroma crystallizes out. Oily and heavy, the Caol Ila is in the air, adding a touch of mint and freshness. The freshness and a hint of citrus harmonize perfectly with the smoke and the cold ashes.
    • Taste
Powerful and intense, the Caol Ila discharges its maritime smoke aroma in the mouth. A fine peat note mixes with the very pleasant smoky note, slowly creating a tingling aroma on the tongue. A pinch of black pepper burns off a small firework, pearls dance, sweet banana mixes with the subtle sharpness. Cocoa powder and a hint of vanilla fall on the tongue, a spicy wood note is sweeter. Creamy, a fruity chocolate mixture spreads in the mouth. Again, the cold ashes come to light, some burnt rubber is discreetly in the background. Mild and yet powerful, smoky and yet fruity, creamy and a fine pepper note.
    • Finish
Fruity and with a cold ash note the finish begins. Subtle sharpness still burns slightly in the mouth, fruity banana aroma mixes with rubber abrasion. Spicy wood ends in a sweet nut flavor. At the end of the departure creates a slightly dry and fine bitter wood aroma. The smoke flavors and the intense sweet fruit still echo.

The smell is convincing in its complexity, the smoke, which is restrained for a young Caol Ila, leaves room for other and complements nicely with the other impressions. The smell of the whisky looks a lot older. In the mouth it looks younger then, the barrel has left its traces in the form of vanilla, but the dark notes of the age are still missing a bit. In the finish, however, you will find them. A wonderful smoky whisky, which, despite its young age, has more to offer than smoke, but a harmonic, complex whole treats. I am very happy about this whisky.
    • Nose
The first impression is marked by smoke and sweet citrus fruits, the smoke is more restrained than expected, very present but not dominant, sugared lemon, behind grapefruit, the smoke leaves room for other, but he always stands behind, vanilla, a touch of burnt rubber , all soft, ripe and harmonious, no alcohol.
    • Taste
Very soft, creamy body, the onset is gentle and is slow to a pleasant tingle on the tongue, vanilla, sweet peach juice, butter biscuits, the smoke is far in the background, like a distant campfire, a light citrus note
    • Finish
In the finish, the smoke and the oak are the most noticeable, the oak brings a gentle hint of chocolate with it, vanilla, a little dark bread crust, long and soft

I claim to be unbiased with this bottling, because I'm really not a recognized friend of pure ex-Bourbonreifungen (exceptions, of course, confirm the rule). But I have to admit, this Caol Ila is a damn great Whiksy! Extremely tasty and matured really great for his age. In the key data and in accordance with my preferences, I expected much less. Excellent!
    • Nose
great creamy deep smoke at the beginning, not chastising or intrusive but rather interwoven with the influences of the barrel, jelly banana, yellow banana, custard, caramel, slightly salty, maritime, sweet camp fire smoke, some lemongrass and a touch of citrus and charcoal, pepper tickles in the nose, and yes, ASWhisky is right with their cucumber water (Spreewälder gherkins), what sounds bad is really great in the nose, especially since it is just a nuance, which is quickly pushed aside from the other flavors again. Short thought of bicycle tires / inflatable (rubber), alcohol is not noticeable, later followed by hints of smoked ham and honey bananas from the grill
    • Taste
sweet, slightly tingling on with lots of vanilla, banana milk, shortbread, caramel, custard, suddenly very tingling and fresh, lemons, at the same time sweet, combined with smoke, ash and honey gives a wonderful taste, in the second sip significantly more spices, some pepper and chocolate
    • Finish
creamy finish with lots of sweetness, vanilla, corpse green apple note, camp fire smoke, coal, bananas, a little oak, milk chocolate, medium-long finish with a little grapefruit towards the end

What can one say, that is a force. The nose is exciting and makes you want more, on the palate, the nose is confirmed, and on the finish you want, you would have something in the glass.
    A great whisky.
    • Nose
At the beginning cold and sweet smoke - restrained, not intrusive and yet present. Over time, the fruit reveals itself as a lemon, green apple and yes, even that, as a crushed, overripe banana. Vanilla comes along and lies down on the fruits. The smoke fades slightly, takes a back seat, but does not leave the stage. Burnt rubber now resonates, as does smoked ham. But always fruity and naseschmeichelnd. No stinging, no burning.
    • Taste
A strong and at the same time silky-smooth start. Oily at the beginning. Spicy spicy smoked ham next to grilled peaches and papayas. Over time, it becomes slightly dry and shows off-dry oak flavors. Vanilla pulls through and sweetens the campfire smoke. A splash of lime juice and again the peaches, which are now covered in milk chocolate.
    • Finish
Medium to long, dry, silky warm, with the smoke of a small campfire and the taste of ripe bananas and peaches.

Tasty and goes well without water! The barrel is really well selected!
    • Nose
Of course, smoke, sweet !, honey, sweet lemons, peppermint, baked banana with honey, a hint of smoked ham
    • Taste
peppery, spicy, tingling on the tongue, drooling, cold ash, smoke, creamy vanilla pudding, honey, cocoa powder, lemon with sugar, ginger, canned peach
    • Finish
Hot pepper and ginger, subtle smoke, sweet, warm and creamy, milk chocolate

A worthy strong whisky, which will hopefully not be the last forum whisky. A wonderful well-drained Coal Ila who has found an excellent barrel. 91 points
    • Nose
At the beginning there is a pleasant smoke and the smell of cold left behind grilling ash. The smoke is always prominent but not overly dominant. It leaves room and caresses the other flavors: fruit notes, especially grapefruit and light bananas and vanilla clearly show the origin of the bourbon barrel. Herb herbs and a little eucalyptus tickle the nose. Nice!
    • Taste
Oily-watery mouthfeel. First, a citric acid shows then suddenly takes over wonderfully sweet vanilla sauce. Suddenly, an unexpectedly violent peppery tingling occurs over the entire tongue. Campfire smoke rises in the mouth. Some cocoa powder on tiramisu. banana
    • Finish
Medium long, smoky-sweet with no bitterness and junk notes. Light citrus notes again.

Geiler shit !! Has the same effect for me as pepperoni chips. Once in the bag, you can not stop. Here you are happy after each sip on the next with his smoky, sweet / sour, spicy pop shower.
    • Nose
Wood-fired smoke with phenolic impact. Salty, earthy, smoked ham. Ne clear lemon. Overripe pineapple. Now there are even more bright fruits that are clearly on the mature side of "power". ;-) Vanilla and something fresh like menthol. Strongly spiced herbs. Above all lies a nice sweetness.
    • Taste
Pleasant, smoky start. Sweet fruity, slightly sour it continues. Then the spices roll over the tongue in the form of chili and pepper and give off a pleasant sharpness. Now something interesting happens ... heavy biting on the tongue. Reminds me of a blast shower (does anyone else know that? Blue pack, green Marshmallow on it ... Magic Gum, or something ?!). The smoked ham with caramel is moving behind.
    • Finish
Long and smoky. First oily, then a little drier. Dark chocolate with espresso.

  9. Horror_Vacui scored this whisky 90 points Expert Junior

The smell of baked banana covered with blossom honey, with some freshly scraped vanilla pod, rises from the glass. In addition to these sweet scents is a cool and fresh mint and menthol scent. The smoke is beautifully woven into this fragrance carpet, and is accompanied by a touch of sea air and tire abrasion. The smoke goes in the direction of "smoldering damp wood" and barbecue briquettes. With some time in the glass, more fruits peel from the banana-smoke carpet: Elstar apple and orange peel. Cointreau, fresh licorice, algae paper and bonito flakes (Katsuoboshi). A touch of freshly mown grass.

Peppery and sweet is the start, paired with roasted hazelnut. Creamy is the malt on the tongue, a subtle bittersweet chocolate note is spreading. In the mouth there is nothing to taste of banana, but a lot of vanilla and caramel. The smoke is noticeable in the form of ashes in the mouth, together with an almost reminiscent of herbal liqueur seasoning and strong oak there is an exciting contrast to the sweetness.

Long, smoky, here again banana, paired with chocolate notes and a slightly bitter note. Again minty freshness, as if you cover a jelly banana with After Right.

Conclusion: A great Caol Ila, the overall looks good 3-5 years older. In particular, the nose can compete well with many 20yo Refill Cask Caol Ila and surpass them.
A really great Caol Ila with unique feature (this very, very strong banana).

If I included the price he would have earned 92/100, this one is unbeatable for the enjoyment you get.
