Close to BenRiach and Longmorn - in the heart of Speyside – you can find the Linkwood distillery. She was founded in 1821. She still produces mostly for the blending industry (primarily for White Horse, Haig, Bells and Dimple) and is not that easy to find as single malt. Unless you look at the independent bottlers. This is one of those from Belgian bottler Brachadair. Distilled in October 1997 and bottled in October 2016 (just shy of 20 years, it seems). It is only released now because Patrick was waiting for his new tubes. But you know: good things come to those who wait.
Very enjoyable Linkwood. Again a great choice by Patrick and his team. Around 129 EUR. Recommended!
The nose is very playful. Creamy butter, jelly beans, pineapple, nougat, yoghurt with peach. Add some rhubarb and Pink Lady apples. Loads of caramel. Sweet malt and the crust of white bread. I’m all for it.
The malt is very oily, almost fatty, on the palate. The ABV is quite doable. Next to all the sweetness of the nose, I also get something candied. And pears, sweet pears! Some spices kick in. Ginger, nutmeg and pepper. Nice.
Here is another fine single malt selected by our national bottler, Brachadair. Linkwood is a single malt that participates mainly in various blends and is not too much to discover in this form. This whisky plays it intelligently, without making too much crates, it leaves a need to plunge nose and lips. (Whisky Passion)
This nose is light and smooth, with a fruity style and lemon fruit pasta. Orchard fruit, green apple, pear. Honey, almonds, vanilla. There is something in the background that looks more like cinnamon ginger.
The mouth fits perfectly with the nose. It has its fruity character, confectionery. They are candied fruit, fruit pasta always, but without that sweet side that sometimes turns to excess. There is a beautiful power in it, but it is under control. Green apples, fresh and slightly tart. An interesting profile, which without letting it appear has a nice palette, an interesting texture.
Long, slightly waxy. Candied fruits. It will be more vegetable, a hint of wood.
