A really tasty Springbank. To put it simply, it looks a bit like a Springbank 12 CS with more sweetness. Not too much sweetness yet, but it shouldn't have been more for me. But he can do a lot for his 9-year-old.
    • Nose
Meringue. Minimal molasses. persimmon Warm wood tones. The special Springbank Funk also has a warm effect. Difficult to describe. Some floral notes. But the flowers fell briefly into the fire. Some lime.
    • Taste
forest honey. plums. semolina pudding. Slightly damp and rotten wood covered with moss. Short effervescent powder that tingles nicely in the mouth. Bit of sandalwood. In addition, Springbank character, which is almost a little more subtle in the mouth than in the nose.
    • Finish
Just a few rancid nuts. rose water. dry wood.

  2. Calmar scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

An excellent, full-bodied, rich whisky, a wide palette of derivatives, but with all the diversity it is felt that the age is not great, everything is perfectly balanced, whole, a lot of sweetness, a lot of barrel, but nothing can overshadow this basis.
    • Nose
Open, dry, spicy wood, old leather goods, furniture varnish, raisins, pipe tobacco, mineral-industrial shades - metal shavings, plaster, oiled tools; sweet creamy notes - fudge, toffee; earthy shades, cocoa, dark chocolate.
    • Taste
Dense, rich, sweet caramel-creamy shades, spicy oak, old furniture, hints of varnish, old leather goods, polish, dried fruits, dark chocolate, caustic industrial and mineral motifs, pipe tobacco, boiled condensed milk, salted caramel, raisins, a little ginger, soy sauce, dried grapes, ash.
    • Finish
Spicy, warming, delicate notes of oak, tobacco leaf, dark chocolate, cocoa, dry herbs, light mineral motifs, metallic sourness, pu-erh, a little smoked meat, salted caramel, leather goods.

Quite a fierce but very tasty Springbank with an interesting duel between cask and distillate. Full of raspberries and purple grapes, lots of sweetness counterbalanced by Springbanks farmyard and dirty peat aromas. Lovely stuff!

    • Nose
      87 87
tender and aromatic peat smoke, winey, sweet, spicy, pleasant oak notes, berry (strawberries and raspberries), also a little yellow fruit compote
    • Taste
      86 86
smooth, creamy, sweet, spicy oak tones (unfortunately a little bit of bitterness noticeable), notes of raisins, must and sweet wine, yellow stone fruit (apricot)
    • Finish
      85 85
medium length with sweetness and oak flavor

Nose: Roasted malt, some peat. Wine notes
Taste: From the first sip a palpable taste with the addition of spices. Of course, peat accompanies the background. Everything is nicely connected and pleasant to receive. The aroma is quite strong.
Grade: 88 | 100 A definitely long finish with a guilty profile. As always, I'm afraid of wine barrels whisky it was really good.

This has an unusual nose. Dried leather, some dried forest fruit berries. Little peaty notes as normally in Springbank. Little farmy notes too.
    • Taste
      88 88
Full flavoured. Quite some red fruit and wine notes in here. But also the classic peaty Springbank notes. Very mature for a 9yo.
    • Finish
      88 88
Long length. The peaty notes hit first. Followed by some wine notes and caramel and liquorish notes.

Very tasteful whisky, pretty strong with some sweet ad fruity notes. Pretty complex, very pleasant.
    • Nose
      88 88
Very fruity, red wine, or wine gums actually. Pretty strong alcohol, some floral, lavender. Then a hint of smoke as well.
    • Taste
      89 89
Pretty strong and powerful, some pepper, fruity notes, plums, cinnamon. Wine gums again. Some honey. Caramel, a bit of cappuccino.
    • Finish
      89 89
Still strong, less pepper though. Later on more pepper and stronger. Intense, fruity, honey. Pretty long, a hint of smoke.
Later on even some lingers of lavender again.

Addendum 1.6.2021: it is definitely to taste lovage, interesting. Never discovered in any other whisky with this intensity.

A strong, young, very good jumper!
    [Color] amber;
    • Nose
      intense: sweet wine aromas, peach, apricot, spice, oak;
    • Taste
      diluted: intense onset, ripe fruit, honey, dark chocolate, tobacco, leather, bitter oak, creamy, oily body;
    • Finish
      long, soft, creamy finish; in the end spicy oak;

  18. WhiskyFan2112 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Initial tasting of this appeared as a sweetened cask strength version of the Springbank 10. Upon revisiting, much different profile with perhaps a few too many things going on.
    • Nose
      84 84
Cooked red berries, smoked bacon, soot, nutty, some farmy note, earthy, wine gums
    • Taste
      85 85
Wine gums, chocolate, nutty, bacon, minerals
    • Finish
      84 84
Salty, some pepper, campfire smoke, wine gums again, earthy

  22. Palindrome scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

This bottle has grown on me. It has a thick gummy sweet quality that feels choked but aside from that I like it. Some interesting flavors and a great ABV.

  23. Archer scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Very nice, it's fun. Varied and unusual, without being too crazy.
    • Nose
Sweet wine gum, lavender, burned oak chips. That's an interesting mix. The wine gum and the lavender prevail, sweet spices come. Radiergummiabrieb.
    • Taste
Very strong and wonderfully creamy on the tongue. Liquorice, lots of licorice! Again the lavender. Dark chocolate, tart herbs, acacia honey. Pepper. And still liquorice.
    • Finish
Medium long and slightly dry, spicy, but no more bitter substances. Only a little lavender oil.

  24. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

I think the perfume is not so uncomfortable in this station wagon.
    • Nose
Raspberries !, to proper bacon, which is an interesting part, now it goes over to grapefruit, the basic note is tart and sweet, some smoke, has something of fir wood, in the background is some milk chocolate, creamy overall, a hint of cinnamon, definitely perfume
    • Taste
Strong onset, sweet, some wood smoke, creamy, some chocolate, now bittersweet, perfume, violets, a lot of violets, raspberry you can guess below
    • Finish
supple, sweet, still this perfume-like, raspberry syrup

  25. Noface83 scored this whisky 90 points Specialist

Nose: slightly musty smoke (some cowshed but also greasy), raspberry, floral perfume note, warming spices (but not spicy), light oak, very sweet in the background (sweetened cold fruit tea) Taste: super creamy and yes a lot of liquorice, strong but not alcoholic, huge sweetness (bright fruits and plums) and now aromatic delicious smoke. Remains long on the finish with sweetish smoke and charred oak. The sweetness is very vinous and opulent!

Ingenious malt with an opulent aroma and a great taste / finish. With a bottle you would make me overjoyed ^^

Enthusiasm: Nose: 4/5 Palate: 2/5 Final: 1/5 Pretty unworthy of Springbank actually. Whisky n ° 1463
    • Nose
Pretty cool. Very ripe, botrytised fruits. The soot made in SB is there but in withdrawal. Honey in a strong way. The barrel dominates the juice too much, but in terms of pure pleasure, I find myself there.
    • Taste
Spices quite frank. The whole is unbalanced, with bitterness and too much tannin.
    • Finish
      Ugh, overwhelming on the tannins!

  27. Donwaldorf scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

A very disappointing Springbank, the task has been too complicated to make a perfect copy. Poorly integrated alcohol, Sauternes / Wine too present ... only the nose was appreciable unfortunately. It will delight fans of aging in casks of wine.
    • Nose
A nose at first glance very greedy. It tickles the nasals without excess. There are hazelnuts, cashews and the whole set of "dried fruits". One can begin to perceive the vinous and sweet side of sauternes. A slight veil of smoke encompasses everything.
    • Taste
Powerful attack, it burns the taste buds, poorly balanced alcohol. Past this aggression we find the spices, the woody and always this vinous side with a big bitterness accompanying it.
    • Finish
Average length, bitterness and return of nuts.

  28. whiskyinstitut scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

That's exactly my direction. This malt combines two of my most beloved directions: Springbank and Sauternes ripening. Great, because the high expectations were absolutely fulfilled. In addition, the typical Sauternes notes are much more recognizable here than in Hazelburn Sauternes.
    • Nose
Immediately noticeable Sauternes influence, present bright grapes and a beautiful sugar sweetness, but the Springbank character comes through easily, you can feel a slight smoke and the mineral notes, with the time is an easily detectable vanilla sugar on top of it, which binds a strong Water does not change much, it just softens as expected in the nose
    • Taste
Very sweet, very creamy, thick it lies on the tongue, then a peppery squeeze of smoke past the creaminess, I get the grapefruit in mind, the oak spice is more dominant, but displaces the sweetness and creaminess but not the second sip is even sweeter and creamier, water brings the vanilla in the foreground
    • Finish
An astonishingly typical Springbank finish, very mineral, while the creamy sweetness is constantly in the picture, a bitterness can be guessed at maximum

[May, 2017]  I had this dram during a Springbank Masterclass tasting at the Campbeltown whisky festival.

The colour is deep copper and the texture shows late legs with slow tears.  The nose is very sweet and winey, after some water added it gets more floral.  The mouthfeel is nicely coating with some peppery moments.  The taste is sweet and winey again with spicy and nutty flavours.  The finish is of medium length and spicy with no distracting moments.  This dram is a good swimmer!

I really like it, a nice dram both easy to drink and interesting to explore at a fair price.  Well done, Springbank society!
