  1. Syleo scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

Overall quite attractive - the best standard Jura I have tried so far. The 10 and the NAS, I found both unspectacular to disappointing, possibly the 16er still awakens a good memory of holiday whisky in various vacations ...
    • Nose
      84 84
Gold with a slight but visible red sting.
Primary impressions are caramel, creme brulee, fresh herbs and sherry as well as significant wine influence.
    • Taste
      82 82
The taste is initially surprisingly woody-bitter and oak-stressed, but then goes quickly into orange and grapefruit and then again emphasizes the influence of the wine quite convincingly.
    • Finish
      79 79
The medium-long finish is again slightly bitter with orange peel, hazel skins but also a distinctive caramel sweetness.

The smell and the taste know how to please with their berry and creamy aromas. In the finish, however, the barriques show their teeth and with their tannins ensure that the overall result is not quite as round as one would like. However, everything stays within limits and those who like malts from red wine casks can give this a chance. It has definitely matured well.
    • Nose
Strawberry-raspberry cream roulade alternates with ''Ed von Schleck'' ice cream, juicy white-fleshed peaches in the second row, very fruity with lots of nice wine aromas, rosehip pulp and red grapes, dark milk chocolate, the barriques of European oak waving cautiously from the Sideline, in the background scattered coconut flakes and vanilla sugar accompany the action
    • Taste
Creamy cream with lots of strawberries and raspberries give a gentle introduction with appealing notes of wine, cocktail cherries, apricots, vineyard peaches and red grapes, the oak plays along nicely, but doesn't overwhelm or push, a bit of malt, milk chocolate with dried pineapple and grated coconut, with a longer stay in the Some acrid tannins and some bitterness emerge in the mouth
    • Finish
Medium length, milk chocolate with a dab of strawberry cream at the beginning, then the tannins extend their claws, it becomes tart and slightly bitter with astringent tannins, milk coffee and black tea, rose hips, vanilla and vineyard peaches appear again at the end for reconciliation, ultimately leaving a light one earthy mineral aftertaste

    Color: amber
Very good, imperceptible alcohol both on the nose and in the mouth. Aged in Premier Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux barrels, you can feel the influence of the red wine, which I don't mind at all. 4-5 degrees more alcohol would have helped.
    • Nose
Winy and elegant bouquet, raisins, aromatic tobacco, a pinch of coffee and orange, all wrapped up in a metallic (or soapy) note. Two drops of water cushion the vinous note and extract a sweet and cereal aroma of sugary pastry
    • Taste
In the mouth it is sweet and greedy, it tastes of marsala, orange chocolate and is slightly spicy, with a light body. Two drops of water extinguish the marsala
    • Finish
Long finish, with notes of chocolate and chilli pepper.

An OK/solid 18 years old scotch single malt. Nothing fancy, but nothing really off putting either. With a higher ABV, it could have climed up over the 85 points mark. But should have, would have, could have do not count, or do they?
    • Nose
      83 83
A typical older Jura nose. A slight cooked vegetables note. A lot of sweetnes, honey and caramel/toffee like.
    • Taste
      84 84
Too much caramel to my liking. The wine influence on the other hand is quite nice, to be honest.
    • Finish
      82 82
Medium, a little bit on the bitter side of things.

The 18-year-old Jura is bottled for travel retail. After storage in bourbon barrels, the malt is further matured in French Bordeaux barrels.
    • Nose

Starts well and promises a lot, but then the too bitter finish depreciates a little. You have to like it.
    • Nose
      82 82
Overripe fruits, grapes, apricots, Galia melon, tart spiciness, slightly cooling, liquorice
    • Taste
      84 84
In the front a sweetness, currant jelly, then creamy dark chocolate, a little nut. Then comes the bitter spiciness, tannins, bitter substances.
    • Finish
      71 71
Quite bitter at the back, you need tolerance here. Behind it there is still a little fruit, but it gets the bitter, almost salty, astringent note. After a few minutes the bitterness goes away and leaves a pleasant feeling in the mouth.
Still, it's a shame, the finish costs a good rating.

    Jura 18.
    Nose: malty, grassy, fresh apricots.
Palate: Caramel, tanines (crused grape seed), pepper on the back of the tongue.
After: Quite a long aftertaste with some sweetness and crushed pepper.

42% is actually too little for this malt.
It is good that the red wine barrel does not come too far.
    But you have berries.
    But it is also bitter.
    All in all, he's okay.

The red wine finish makes the malt very sweet and brings with it a great berry aroma. Very tasty and easy to drink. Unfortunately in my opinion the alcohol content is too low, with a little more strength this Jura would be awesome.
    • Nose
Very sweet and fruity with sweet and sour berry fruits. Goes towards gooseberries and wild berries. In addition, pronounced vanilla, caramel and honey. In the background you can smell old wood and leather. After a long smell, the association with forest floor and brown sugar is added. Nice, ripe and interesting nose.
    • Taste
Oily and very soft, almost too soft. Sweet with brown sugar, light spice and some chocolate. Not as exciting as on the nose, but pleasing.
    • Finish
Oak with a bit of bitterness like black coffee and liquorice. A little spice with wine gum and forest honey.

fresh fruit, peaches from the can, raisins, sweet plums, almost candysweetness, nice nose, did not expect that from a jura. nice seabrease, love the nose
    • Taste

a lot of earthiness, some wet oak, not at all.like the nose, very unspectacular. rather alcoholic for 42%
    • Finish

unfortunately leaves a rather unappealing taste in my mouth, i fell in love with the nose but the taste and finished disappointed me. especially the finish is almost brutally unelegant but not in a nice way

The nose and taste are very soft, sweet and fruity. The finish, on the other hand, is quite bitter and dry. Doesn't match the rest of the flavor profile at all.
    • Nose
      86 86
very light maritime smoke which evaporates very quickly, dried fruits, herbs, very fresh aromas, light citrus fruits, honey, berries, very soft.
    • Taste
      87 87
lots of dark fruits, berries, dried fruits, caramel, honey, very soft and round, becoming slightly creamy, becoming slightly bitter much later.
    • Finish
      82 82
very soft and a bit bitter as well as dry, here the Bordeaux finish comes out in the dry version. Lots of fruits, very light citrus fruits

Aroma: grated radish, spicy, leaving everything else in the background. But there, if you smell it, wine, a little sulfur, red fermented berries.
Taste: dense. Sun-dried fruits, cabbage, wine
Aftertaste: long-lasting, wine and vegetable. Unfortunately sulfur dominates this release at all stages

  24. DulischM scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

A delicious and dark-berry whisky that reminds me of my grandma's wild berry candies. Very pleasant and soft, it caresses the entire oral cavity.
    • Nose
First the honey and citrus aromas of the bourbon barrels jump into my nose, which are immediately replaced by wine aromas with red and sweet grapes. This is followed by dark berry notes, possibly raspberry, blackberry and blackcurrant, before everything is mixed with sweet wild berry sweets. Finally, some cinnamon, old wood and complex dark sweetness on the nose.
    • Taste
In the mouth, the whisky is spicy of fresh grass and old wood, but there is also a sweetness of vanilla with blueberries.
    • Finish
In the finish, sweet on the palate (possibly strawberries) and old oak in the mouth.

phew, the assessment will be difficult
one should be prepared for a bitter and bitter malt
I like such malt every now and then
it is not a high flyer but dangerously easy to drink and with a price <40 € I find the PLV OK
the only drawback he could have tolerated more than 42%
    • Nose
Red wine, more tart, dark caramel, red berries (a forest berry mix of raspberries and blackberries), slightly earthy, slightly leather, grassy notes, later some oak, nutty notes,
      later: something musty and nougat
    • Taste
oily and soft on the palate
light raisins, oak, red berries, tart, bitter of tannins, wine, soft chocolate (~ 50%), red haribo bears, liquorice
      later citrus notes
    • Finish
      medium to long
light oak and becomes stronger, bitter, spicy, later bitter coffee notes, plus licorice which becomes stronger

  28. LeChiffre scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

The malt is lacking in alcohol and it seems a bit unspanned. The bitter notes disturb something here. Ok, but I do not have to have a bottle of it.
    • Nose
      80 80
fruity-spicy; Cinnamon; Caramel; harmonious and quite mild
    • Taste
      80 80
soft and mild; fruity sweetness (I only taste the berries away); the wine barrel is visible in the background; increasingly bitter spiciness
    • Finish
      78 78
the finish is long and characterized by spicy aromas; to bitter oak

Dangerously tasty! Because you have to be careful, otherwise you make big sips.
    • Nose
      Colour:
      pink gold

      Nose:
My first impression ... very fruity. A touch of leather, wild berries and sugared raisins. He smells really sweet and tasty. Lemon tea, wet grass and wet sandstone. Sweet corn and as a counterpole some apple cider vinegar. If left to stand, the berries become more mature, but now they are more acidic. I mean to find some tobacco and humus in the background. Freshly polished wood and it simply gains in maturity and density.
    • Taste
Soft start. Then brown sugar and sweet raspberries. It just reminds me of a mild, balanced cognac. Not intrusive, but shows what he can. Some spice moves on. A slightly artificial wood taste comes through. Licorice and yes ..... now goes in the direction of blackberries. The second sip of sour cherries, more liquorice, nougat and goes so against Haribobärchen.
    • Finish
Short to medium. Syrup-like, the oral cavity is pasted. A little spiciness, liquorice. In the end honey sweetness sticks.

The nose gives you toffee caramel with fruit, cinnamon and touches of the cask. When tasting it's mild at start but then spices and dark fruits earth and hay.

    Blindverkostung
    • Nose
Initially a stinging alcohol note dominates, the whisky needs some time in the glass. Then it opens, looks perfumed on me and very sweet (caramel, cane sugar, maybe raisins and even some strong wine like sherry). I also find a slight solvent note. The sweet, perfumed fruits recede over time in the glass, the sweet flavors then dominate, especially the caramel.
    • Taste
The alcohol is not nearly as strong as the nose would suggest. Sweet, slightly spicy but hardly woody (no oak, no bitterness, only slightly dry), some sherry fruit and milk coffee. Overall quite one-dimensional and simple.
    • Finish
Quite short, characterized by coffee, maybe also milk chocolate.
