[May, 2017]  I had this dram during a Springbank Masterclass tasting at the Campbeltown whisky festival.

The nose is very complex on malty, fruity (banana) and demara sugary sweet aromas.  Some hints of floral notes and rum too.  The mouthfeel is smooth and a little peppery.  The taste is quite complex again but not rich or bold.  Additional leathery and tobacco notes here.  The finish is of medium length with spicy aromas (pepper, vanilla, cinnamon).  With water the whole dram gets sweeter and even more mellow, and the finish stays a little longer that way.  So I like it best with some (not too much) drops of water.

A very fine dram indeed and much better than the 21year old festival edition (for my taste) - but way to pricey.  As a drinker I would not pay more than 100 Euro for such a bottle...

What a great nose, you can almost dream. Very complex and interesting. Too bad that then only so (relatively and in proportion) lukewarm finish is in it.

First, toffee sweets and a hint of camembert (rarely, that I have a soft cheese in a whisky - pleasant, not irritating), before notes of fresh peaches and ripe bananas set. Slightly mineral. Salty and with a touch of sea air (from the sea side). Now the wind is turning, coming from the east, over the land; wanders over a wildflower field, takes the scent and carries it in the nose. A thick buttered dish, honey on top. Barley, malt, caramelized sugar. And as a basis then again and again this note of a saltwater-wet stone.

Sweet peach and apricot pieces, garnished with a leaf of basil, oregano, thyme. Slightly peppered. The sea is also to be found on the tongue, although the spicy fruit notes indicate the direction and lead. At the beginning slightly oily, it becomes drier in the course. Woody notes come in, bring along leather and fresh tobacco leaves. Chocolate notes, marzipan, vanilla kipper, honey. The oak flavor remains "bright" and will not become dominant later.

Slightly dry with peach and apricot, a good dash of honey, leather and marzipan. Goodbye to the tongue relatively quickly, leaving a trail of fruit and salt.

A decent dram, but no bells or whistles, and most of the time it felt like all those different cask types were cancelling each other's flavours out instead of creating a more complex experience.

Different nose for sure. Sherry notes with dried fruits, leather, light marzipan, furniture polish, then overripe banana, toffee, very light bubblegum, hay, a bit of honey, and vanilla. Interesting, and even better after tasting.

Alcohol feels light, light pepper, nice and warm, but the lack of sweetness is surprising. Light carrot juice sweetness only, then comes oak, leather, dried herbs, some barley, freshly cut grass. Second chew brings a bit more leather, tobacco leaves, and very light smoke. Sweetness still very low. Third chew finally brings a little bit of cane sugar on top of the carrot juice, some custard, and a very little bit of marshmallows. Not a lot of other stuff going on, which is surprising considering that it was matured in 4 different casks. Maybe all were 2nd or 3rd fill? Definitely the result is not very exciting.

Very light peppers, decent amount of oak, tobacco leaves, light smoke, very ripe banana peel. Light, but not bad.

Aroma: Restrained, intense, multifaceted. The first wave is branded, industrial notes. Locksmith, oiled rags, carpentry shop. Wood heated by friction, light minerality. Citrus fruits, butter biscuits, some dried fruits, berry shades, vanilla, banana. Spices, noble tobacco, milk chocolate, delicate wood.

Taste: Rich, silky, sweetish. Ripe apricots and peaches, some dried fruits, light creaminess. An industrial theme, subtle minerality, noble tobacco, spices, the most delicate barrel.

Finish: Long lasting, silky. Vanilla, some dried fruit, oiled rags, a light sillage of milk chocolate, a barrel.

Conclusion: Restrained, but at the same time very rich, silky, rich in shades and undertones of whisky, with excellent balance. The interaction of barrels with alcohols is at the highest level. With each new sample, I fall more and more in love with Springbank, may my wife forgive me????????????.

A really good malt. With that one has to deal a little longer, then he shows what he can. However, the price is already very ambitious.
    • Nose
Caramel. Then immediately such a mineral and earthy note. Forest floor. Also herbs. Fresh banana peel. Immediately after pouring relatively little fruit. After a few minutes, but then comes a lot more. Apricot dumplings. Cloudberry jam. Sugar candy. Sweet, malty notes. The smoke is very subtle and mingles with the dirty Springbank notes.
    • Taste
Agave nectar. Also something like the juice of Dosenlitschis. Some rose water. Then a nice tingle that reminds me of lemon shower sticks. Now comes orange marmalade. And a nice spice. Gradually it gets smokier.
    • Finish
The smoke is less strong than expected in the finish. Grapefruit. A touch of China bark. Leather and tobacco.

Significantly more complex, compared to the 18s, but more difficult to grasp, since four barrel types were used. More spice is heading for Christmas. Prunes, cinnamon
    • Taste
      88 88
A potpurri on pickled fruits, raisins, cloves, allspice, cocoa, tobacco, little smoke
    • Finish
      88 88
Long and slightly bitter, the four barrel types swing slightly after ....
