Whisky Reviews for Mannochmore 1988 TWA
4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.59 points
- [April, 2017] I had a tasting sip at the Limburg Whisky Fair and scored it with preliminary 88 points. It is a somehow strange dram - not just by it taste... According to official Diageo sources Mannochmore was closed troughout the whole year of 1988, so where come this whisky from? I guess they did some trial distillations by the end of the year to test the equipment before restarting production in 1989 - so this a trial dram, and not the worst of Mannochmore (...remember Loch Dhu?). No, actually this is pretty good...
- We move up the chain in a tasting with this second in the line up. How often do you see a Mannochmore? and how often does The Whisky Agency bottle a gem like this!
Oh tight; all the time!
This is iconic Mannocmore. Dusty and rich, spicy and subtle with a really wonderful nose on it.
The nose is intense. Old books and dust, worn leather book bindings. Lots of pepper and sweet cask shavings. Sweet wood? Hit sand and a touch of mineral peat. Heather maybe...
The palate is sharp pepper bite, sweet honey follows. Bright sharp floral notes, daisy and hyacinth... Then more patisserie sweets and crushed flowers... Maybe flower shop notes, grassy vegetal notes.
The finish is wood spice, big and bright. Pepper spice and talc almost. So light but so strong. Long and drawn out, strangely Highland notes and some mead.
- Very pleasant style. Nice whisky for a spring or cool summer day.
Apricot, honey, apple, hint of grass, soft floral note, and a dusting of freshly ground black pepper.
Honey, sugary pastry, a fresh vegetal note, rosewater, some pepper appears just before the finish.
Light pepper, faint maltiness, wood spice, light oiliness
