Breath Of Speyside 10 year (Adelphi) 58.4% 2006 first fill sherry butt

N: Wine gums, tart, slightly sour and acidic. Malty, orange zest, a bit of wool. With water gets saltier and with chalky vitamins, sweeter too.

P: Fruit gummies, tart Apple, lemon pucker, dates, thick mouthfeel, oily. With water creamier, honeyed.

F: Citrus and oak spice, prickly, lemon and lime. With water silky, peachy, honey.

    87/100

Notes: much better with water. Gets creamy, honeyed and some softer fruits come out. Actually I like this one and would consider purchasing if the price was right.

Score: A- (92 if you must); So all undisclosed Speysides are Macallan, right everybody? Right??? Lovely dram—rich and complex. Gives everything I want from the FF-sherry profile, along with a brightness and complexity. A touch too much sulphur though.
    • Nose
Dates, figs, cinnamon, butter, chutney, hot spiced cider, brown sugar baked ham, some sulphur, and some apple-tinged smoke. Dense.
    • Taste
Proscuitto, dates, figs, sweet apple, chili powder, grilled peaches, curry, and a hint of malt vinegar. Velvety and rich.
    • Finish
Bitter but not overly drying. Dry dates, figs, apples, cinnamon, chili powder, and ginger. So much here.
