Quality is high on this one. who said old blends cannot match aged malts, I have just tried the 1958 46 year Glen Garioch OB on pure enjoyment terms there is not much in it but this is 10% of the price and I still think that is a bit pricy.
    Good stuff
    • Nose
      92 92
A nice, spicy toffee nose with hints of dark berries at first but let it develop in the glass as it keeps changing, faint medicinal notes emerge, very faint iodine, hints of peat but it also has a herbal side being slightly grassy with various green herbs thrown in, perhaps parsley & sage but difficult for me to decipher.
      A very good nose
    • Taste
      90 90
Quite thick on the palate with a big peat/sherry combo washing across your taste buds mixed with malt loaf, raisins and brown bread crust.
Slightly bitter with the oak coming out but heck its 50 years old so I will not hold that against it too much.
The sherry takes centre stage with the spice with some nice jammy notes of raspberry & blackberry
    • Finish
      89 89
Not the longest but pleasantly sweet and remaining spicy

with water: No, it definitely doesn't bring water

Conclusion: well-engineered, nice complexity, but the wow factor is missing a little and therefore does not quite meet expectations
    • Nose
old leather, peach, grape-nut chocolate, raisins, beautiful, well-balanced wood spices
    • Taste
round, soft and balanced, sherry, grapes, raisins, light nut aromas, some toffee, and a very subtle grain character
    • Finish
medium length, also beautifully balanced here, at the very end the grain makes itself felt with glue notes

Nice increase from 35y, more harmonious, rounder, full, unfortunately the finish is still short for the age but just a little better than with the 35y. All in all, I had more exciting and tasty blended malts in the 20-35y range for half the money.
    • Nose
Hmm, much more aromatic and harmonious than the 35y brother, reminds something of old hibikis with the intense sweetness and yet freshness and elegance instead of pampiness, honeydew melon, apricot, vanilla, toffee, lychee, fresh meadow honey, some molasses, rosemary, fennel, anise , all three but less herbal-spicy than more than just a refreshing note like a high-quality scented candle
    • Taste
Sweet and dry approach, the yellow fruits of the nose, a crisp but pleasant old oak is there from the start, but even as a not so oak fan it stays perfectly in place and rather forms a nice surface for the fruits and herbs above , Apricots with a core, peach, honeydew melon, lychee, orange peel, lavender, rosemary, some fennel and anise, green tea, a hint of eucalyptus, some brown sugar and coffee
    • Finish
Coffee, fruit seeds, rosemary, oregano, dried fruit, teen notes, medium to long

Old and solid, sweet and spicy with wonderful wood tones. This ancient blended Scotch whiskey is extremely easy to drink and makes you want another dram. Great fabric, I like it very much!

    23/23/22/22 (90P)
    • Nose
Cloudy amber shines in the premium snifter, dried grapes and berries rise majestically, caramelized sugar mixes with dark roasted aromas. Malty grain notes, a hint of meadow herbs, old and spicy wooden elements play with a hint of apricot and peach, minimally mint and menthol freshness.
    • Taste
Slightly smoky spicy wood tones and burnt sugar pour over the tongue, meadow herbs and hints of tasty cough syrup, sugar beets and old raisins followed by the abrasion of dried grapefruit peels, smoked wood chips and minimal peat ensure a slightly bitter and bitter character. The next sip flows creamy through the mouth, dark dried fruits, old caramel and toffee, crumbs of dark chocolate and fresh mint. There is a wonderful herbal and spice note above everything.
    • Finish
Spicy, dark wood rests on the palate, the sweet cough juice note with many herbs returns, sweet raisins and other dried fruits combine with old mint and menthol to create a medium-long and voluminous aftertaste.

I really liked that. I'd probably like to have more of it. Aging in dignity, no properties that dull everything else. Still expressive. Very, very tasty. Full review (in German): https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2019/10/18/ueber-100-jahre-im-glas/

A nice whiskey that does not hide its age. But he did not really convince me, because I do not have the tension. There I find z. For example, the Invergordons of Mancarella are more exciting.
    • Nose
The nose is quite reminiscent of an old grain. But not just colorful, but also slightly darker than, for example, the Mancarella Invergordons.
Linseed oil / wood oil. Black bread. Molasses. After a while you will see some rotten or fermented red grapes. Some hairspray. Tobacco. Modriges wood.
    • Taste
Initially sweet and sour notes. Forest honey. Immature blackberries. Rum raisins. Black tea with a splash of lemon. Then it gets spicier. The oak comes and also a certain tingle. Short comes a little soy sauce. Salted caramel. Dark chocolate. Leather.
    • Finish
Votes Omen. Tabak. China Rinde. Salzlakritze.

Nose: Interesting nose, heavy old sherry and oak, dark fruits, no alcohol

Mouth: quite consistent with the nose, soft and oily, with some bitterness between the grain and the oak.

Finish: the bitterness becomes stronger, overall unexpectedly short.

Conclusion: nice, soft, oily whiskey, which feels younger compared to the age with a unfortunately very short finish.

He is gentle and he is old, no question. Everything was consistent, but everything was also reserved. Really good whiskey, but no real revelation. Maybe today was just not the day.
    • Nose
Quite reserved, but what arrives smells pleasingly old, old oak, slightly rustic, the old Grain is also to smell. Especially woody flavors without it being too much.
    • Taste
Spicy, sweetish, raisins, dried fruit, some vanilla, tart oak, tannins, spices
    • Finish
Sweet and spicy, a lot of oak, menthol, herb and also the raisins and dried fruits come by.

N: Utterly moorish nose that comes from great age & blending.
    T: Lots of consolidated layers.
F: Swimmingly concentrated/blended initially but one that comes out just right at the end.
    C: A strong finish helps maintain overall balance.Scores a B

In terms of pleasure it's 100%. The nose is his Achilles heel, the rest is really pretty, although I would have liked a little more oak.
    Enthusiasm 4/5
    Whiskey n ° 1415
    • Nose
Sweet and deep, on caramel and vanilla. More on the grain than the malt apparently. No woody notes. Cooked fruits, later roasted almonds. Mature, melted. A little flat. A hint of smoke.
    • Taste
Very sweet attack. Mellous to fall! Juicy wish. Still no wood, some discreet spices at the end of the mouth.
    • Finish
Winey, stewed fruit, superb. Long and subtly bitter - finally an indirect trace of oak.

A whisky worth taking some time over. Literally. Allow this old boy a little time in the glass to relax and decompress a touch (it's been in a cask for a very long time after all). Your patience will be rewarded with a blend that is grain heavy, but not totally dominant, well-balanced and dangerously drinkable. A menagerie of breakfast cereals (you'll probably think of other brands to mine) and deep treacle/chocolate notes admirably demonstrate the juxtaposition of grain and malt for the half Century they've spent together in a cask.

Well my disappointment is to be compared to my expectations. Otherwise overall it is a good grain whiskey, even a good whiskey simply. It is quite well done as a whole but lacks personality. He will not return to my personal pantheon.
    • Nose
Well, there is a lot of grain in this Blended and I am not surprised at the price. A very soft nose and very green at first. This nose is a beautiful complexity. There are sometimes vanilla, honey and even grilled almonds and at other times the fruits of the orchard dominate. After aeration, the nose is focused on grapes and licorice.
    • Taste
A light attack on bitterness. Very fat on the palate we are on notes more herbaceous and spicy. There is Granny Smith apple, mint and licorice.
    • Finish
A suitable length on mint, light spices, woody and bitterness that goes with it.

    https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2017/05/21/whisky-weekender-golden-gems/

N: [Blind] A very old one, a touch farmy/cheesy. Initially somewhat shy but it's far from small - beckoning me in to it’s hollow like Yoda to Luke [my first Starwars reference, Mark]. Later the sherry comes to the fore.
T: Herbal & hollow-ish, not showing fragility but a meekness? Theres a concentration focused to the centre of the palate & equally to the centre of my mind - neuroscience link between palate & imagination required.
F: A little smoke to the part-sherried malt and a little smoked liquorice - the smoke & sherry embedded, so more signs of serious age.
C: Somewhat innocuous but thoroughly engaging - I spent 20 mins with it, which is quite some festival time.Scores a B

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Round and quite rich, as is to be expected with these releases. Chocolate cornflake cakes or choc chip Weetabix Crispy Minis with fragrant sultana and white grape. Crème brûlée throughout.
Palate: Black treacle and a little gypsy tart (evaporated milk and muscovado) with a fruity plum wine and sweet anise edge.Finish: Liquorice. A touch of cocoa also but unmistakably liquorice lingers on a long finish.
