This is seriously good whisky at an OK price.
I suspect that if this had been bottled at 40% it would have been just another dudd. But that 46,3% is really spot on.

      Very sweet and fruity.
      Lovely honey, light citrus.
      Apples, hint of vanilla.
      Barley sugar and light oak.
    • Taste

This delivers everything that the nose promise.
Delicious white fruits dipped in honey.
Apple and pear with a sprinkle of pepper.
A nice ballance between the light impression of sweet fruit and the more substantial and robust spice.

Very close to a long finish, actually I'd say long.
      Both sweetness and spice linger.
Some nutty flavours every now and then.
A playfull finish that makes you hold off on the next sip just to enjoy it.

    (Bought march 2020. Bottle code 1741915 L508:3018074) Tasted 01.04.2020.
APPEARANCE: Medium gold / deep white wine colour. Much lighter than the Deanston 12 YO. Quite viscous, noticeable long, slim legs on the side of the glass.
NOSE: Much purer bourbon notes than the 12 YO; quite a bit of dried and fresh banana, vanilla, dried coconut, sweet wood and something solventy, direction nail polish remover. A perfumed note, almost soapy. A few drops of water transforms the soapy to fresh tropical fruits; mango, guava, papaya, cantaloupe. I think this has only been bourbon cask matured (86-88p without, 88-89 with water)
TASTE: The arrival is a little lighter than the 12, but the taste is long. On the mid palate there are a number of orchard fruits, sweet barley juice and summer honey, but it is all rather “dry” and come in a mineral, slightly austere wrapping. Fascinating. Benefits from (a lot of) time in the glass. With a few drops of water it becomes sweeter and the sweet barley juice more pronounced. (87-88p)
FINISH: The exit is mineral, again with fresh engine oil, steel and some white pepper. In the aftertaste the white pepper becomes more prominent. A few drops of water doesn’t change much. (86p)
OVERALL: Deanston has made a textbook bourbon matured malt and wrapped it in a thin, see through mineral austerity wrapping. Needs time. Fascinating. TOTAL SCORE: 87 points.

Deanston 15 years Organic !! And again a hammer filling from Deanston! Honey bomb instead of sherry bomb !!
Who wants to experience the distillery character of Deanston should buy this bottle. the honey note is so intense, I have never experienced a whisky!
Aroma: honey and vanilla, fruity & sweet oak Taste: vanilla and malty aromas, with the full-strength honey note known from Deanston Finish: long with a saccharine sweetness.

Aroma: floral, fresh, meadow flowers and grass, vanilla bun with sprinkling, citrus candies, concentrated lemonade, sweet honey melon, overripe pear, lime honey; salty and mineral, stone crumb. Pleasant, fruit and flower theme interspersed with malt and mineral tones.

Taste: sweet spicy, overripe sweet pear, honey ginger, a bit of bitterness of lemon zest, candied pineapple, canned pineapple syrup.

Finish: longer than average, damped honey sweetness, ginger, spices: grated cinnamon stick, dried peel, sweet pastries.

    Rating: 87

The result: a pleasant honey-flower molt, already a cut above their very good 12, a logical continuation of it, but more fruity and sweet, with less spice and herbaceous content, the balance is very good. Wood is not felt, it is even strange for a 15-year-old molt, but this does not spoil the picture at all.

I have never had a Deanston I've disliked. They are always a really enjoyable summer sipper and reasonably priced. A great distillery that is just flying under the radar and knocking out cracking whisky. This was a sample courtesy of Peatbogger.

Sweet sugar like icing sugar, lemon tart straight out of the oven and you can also smell the crust of the pastry. Lots of cooking going on here. When I walk into the kitchen when the wife is making muffins, this is what the air smells like. Lots of fruit like apricots and peaches. Sweet honey and marmalade jam.
    • Taste

Before I took a sip I imagined what this would taste like and there it is.A little dryness straight away but that's good as those fruity cake flavours stick firmly on the tongue and around those taste buds. Sweet honey and vanilla. Again that marmalade but this time it's on a hot cross bun. Nougat bar and sherbet dip.

As I said those flavours stick and they stick around for a long time. Lots of oak on the death.

Lovely vanilla, oak, but not overpowering. Fruit bomb. Delicately complex and full of flavour. Cinnamon and freshly ground black pepper. Hay and honey. Oily.
