Smell, similar to Bakewell Tart of the nose, a very jammy one at that.
Raspberry, blackberry jam on the palate lingers into a warming finish.
    Pretty good.

Scallywag 13 YO Sherry Cask Matured Blended Malt, 46%. Consumed August 2018. Aroma is fruited chocolate, fruited liqueur chocolates, fruitcake, oloroso, very nice stuff. Taste is similar - quite rounded and easy, rich, a little salty booze shows up through the woody sherry and chocolate notes. A very good whisky for the price and very cohesive considering it's a blend. I would be interested to try other Scallywag bottlings on the back of this experience. (3.55/85)

What a great sherry filling! Perfectly balanced, nothing dominates and at the same time incredibly voluminous and complex. The best example that blended (malt) whiskeys are completely underestimated by the whiskey fan community. This bottling is an absolute hit.

Edit: After the bottle is slowly coming to an end, an up-rating takes place. The whiskey is just perfectly harmonious at its peak of maturity. I still got a bottle of around 45 €, so he fully earned the 100 points. Partly available from € 60 - still acceptable, but the price-performance ratio suffers marginally.

Great blended malt. I'm positively surprised. He is incredibly easy to drink. Not complex, but has everything for me what a light sherry whiskey in the price range needs.
    • Nose
      85 85
Great light, not oversaturated but clear Sherrynase. Dark fruits with a fine oak spice. Add some chocolate and a light nuttiness. Reminds me something of kirsch. I do not really like it. Smells great here.
    • Taste
      84 84
Nice start. Plums, raisins, figs. In addition also cherry easily ... or imagination, who knows.
Pleasant tingles in the mouth but still soft creamy and oily.
    • Finish
      82 82
Medium length finish, slightly bitter, espresso, and drier. The oak flavor stays a little longer

  17. LeChiffre scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A well-balanced blend with a clear Sherry expression. Nothing bothers you, no miss notes, yet powerful and interesting. Maybe I should try blends more often? Not too complex but still tasty, also measured by the price.
    • Nose

    • Taste
      85 85

    • Finish

Actually not a blend, but a teaspooned Balvenie, which we had taken with a few friends at a fair for just over 40 EUR in a box of six. Later tasted it in our whiskey ring in a row with other Balvenie, including directly against a more than twice as expensive official Balvenie from a Sherrycask, which we had ordered extra for this purpose. If you swapped the two glasses, you could not tell them blind. Whiskey very round and tasty, value for money just great. We have each put a few bottles aside for "bad times".

A nice juice overall but a lot of lack of punch and length. If it had to be given a subjective note, it would be an 85.
    • Nose
Amber gold. The dried fruits, then the black fruits, the blackberries, the noble wood and the wax of floorboard.
    • Taste
On the palate it is very vinous, sweet bitters, dried fruits and spices translate the Sherry cask, slightly tannic, but very sweet.
    • Finish
The finish is of medium length on a sweet bitter reglée.

  23. maltaholic scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

That's really good, especially for the price.
    • Nose
The nose reminds of light wood, flower meadow, Mon Chéri. But also alcohol in the aroma, spicy.
    • Taste
In the taste rather fruity, strong, sweet. Sultanas, dates, vanilla.
    • Finish
      Not very long finish, fruity.

13 years in the barrel ought to have produced a drink with more oomph.
    • Nose
Sherry comes through although only gently.
    • Taste
Sherry, Christmas cake but then peters out a little.
    • Finish
Quite gentle like an embarrassed trying not to waken their one night stand.

I tasted this before without taking notes and found the sherry profile too sweet to my liking. This is still true but I did notice some things I may have missed which made me warm up to it a little more. Still not my cup of tea but a fantastically well made blended malt.

    • Nose
Rich, nutty sherry. Slightly Sulphury sherry. Marmalade. Jam. Woodspice. Toffee. Slight hints of bubblegum.
    • Taste
Sweet pancakes with maple syrup. Orange marmalade. Cacao. Raspberry powder. Chocolate liqueur.
    • Finish
Long. Chocolate liqueur carries on. Slight sulphur. Dry nutty wood. Jaffa cakes. Cafe latte.

  27. PeterCr scored this whisky 85 points Expert Junior

The nose seemed a it weak or closed to me and lacked a bit in complexity. The nose and finish are a lot more complex and make this still an interesting dram. The sherry is clearly recognisable.

    Score = 84-86/100
    • Nose
A spicy (baking spices) nose which seems a bit closed to me. After putting my nose completely in I recognise some dried fruits (dates, figs) and some hints of citrus as well.
    • Taste
All sherry sweetness (raisin and some caramel and honey) with a almost no spices in the beginning. A nice soft and smooth texture which is a lot more complex compared to the nose.
    • Finish
The finish is medium long and ends dry. It also brings back the spices (pepper, cloves and some nutmeg) found in the nose. The finish adds to the dynamics and makes this one interesting.

If you're looking for a good sherried Speysider, this Scallywag is a good bet. I can't imagine this'll disappoint anyone.
    • Nose
The sherry influence is hugely evident, with lots of dried red fruits (raisins, raisins, raisins) and red berries. Hints of fudge and caramel, as well as molasses. A whiff of cinnamon and a whisper of aniseed.
    • Taste
A nice oily, syrupy mouthfeel. More raisins, milk chocolate, and cappuccino. Somewhat spicy with cloves and again some cinnamon.
    • Finish
Drying, slightly tannic and spicy. Short to medium in length.

An absolutely fabulous blended malt. Exuberant sweet and fruity aromas in perfect balance with a rich spiciness coming from the sherry casks. A multi-layered, entertaining dram with no overwhelming sherry flavours. Truly enjoyable and dangerously quaffable. Be careful when adding water as you might loose a lot of character of this gorgeous dram.

    • Nose
Unequivocally sherry on the nose. However, not that bold "sherry bomb" but rather filigree, gentle and well-structured flavours. There's cinnamon, dried fruits and red berries, along with juicy oranges and baked red apples. With time, lingering oak spice emerges, accompanied with hazelnut, subtle raisins, nutmeg and a whiff of ginger in the background. A gorgeous nose!
    • Taste
This lovely mix of delicate flavours continues on the palate. There's creamy vanilla, red dried fruits, juicy oranges, and subtle raisins coming through. This is well-balanced with a pleasant spiciness of oak, cinnamon, sweet crystallized ginger and nutmeg. Some floral notes arrive, nicely intermingling with slightly bitter orange peel towards the finish.
    • Finish
The finish shows medium length with creamy vanilla, zesty orange and mocha, leading to a warm and spicy end with oak, pepper and nutmeg.

With water: Fresher on the nose with a few drops of water. It brings out some more spice while the fruity flavours remain present. Both the sweetness and fruitiness, however, are significantly tamed on the palate bringing more oak spice, cracked black pepper, ginger and nutmeg to the fore. The finish is medium long, warm and spicy with prickling oak on the tongue. Becomes significantly dry with a whiff of tobacco leaves on the tail.
