This is my favorite from the AnCnoc vintage bottlings that I've tried (1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002). Fragrant, assured, extremely well-balanced, and straight-up delicious.
The nose loses a bit with water, while the palate profits from it.

Less peppery / acidic than other AnCnocs, more well-rounded, you could even say: creamy. There's a curious sense of smoke drifting about the glass... No idea if Knockdhu do their peated bottlings on different equipment than their non-peated stuff, but either this impression comes from leftover phenols or it's a sensory deception and what I'm getting here is actually only the charred notes of reactivated / rejuvenated casks. It's nice enough either way, especially in combination with these soft florals and fruits (grape, kumquat). I'm surprised by how much I like this. Could nose this for quite a while and not get bored.
With water, the oak becomes a bit too dominant and the ex-bc components win out over the sherried ones. I prefer the nose neat.

Intense attack, with the usual white pepper, ginger, and lime that I've come to expect from AnCnoc. But it's also sweet in the middle, before the oak takes the reins, and at the death, I'm fairly certain (again) that I detect a bit of peat. Neat, it has a bit of a bite. Gets creamier and more well-rounded with water.
    • Finish
      86 86
Lime, ginger, pepper, honey, creamy refill-sherry fudge notes.

Good introduction to the world of Knockdhu. Not outstanding, but a nice and solid insight into the distillery character

Pleasant nose. Mainly intense lemon, a touch of meadow flowers with a minty freshness
    • Taste
      84 84
Quite alcoholic start with lots of spice, but also oily on the tongue. Again light citrus notes, some honey sweetness. But the barrel comes through very quickly and brings wood and liquorice.
    • Finish
      86 86
Inviting, wood and liquorice with a fresh background. Subtle pepperiness with a fine sweetness at the back. Medium-long finish

My first Ancnoc and not the last!
    • Nose
Fresh & fruity and also sweet & sour. Besides that I can find floral notes, mint and honey. A charming nose.
    • Taste
Sweet and soft arrival with a creamy mouthfeel but then come the spices. This dram is quite complex for 14 years of maturation.
    • Finish
Sweet on the beginning with honey and chocolate, then spices and some mild tannins.

The first whisky I ever bought, a lovely dram with an amazing profile of taste.

Tasted on May 6th, 2019 in the Knockdhu Distillery during the Spirit of Speyside Festival.

great, fruity whisky, a distantly wrong distillery, the comparison with the very fruity Malts of Glenallachie is apparent, which are very similar to the basic character. Of course, not very complex, it would have taken him a few more years. But everything seems well interwoven and harmonious - very good Allday Dram
    • Nose

great fruit flavors such as blackberry, black currant, gooseberry and apricot jam, some nutshell, dried fruit, oak, alcohol is well integrated
    • Taste
      86 86
here too, the berry fruits dominate, great but not too intrusive sweetness and light oak flavors, honey sweetness
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium, fruit compote with spiky and blackberries, the oak slightly fades with pleasant spiciness, the honey sweetness is in the finish from clearest
