  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Courtesey of Stefan van der Boog. From the same bottle as Ruben's tasting note: https://www.whiskeynotes.be/2017/irish-whiskey/knappogue-castle-1950-cask-1/. Cross tasting with my own bottle Knappogue Castle 1951.
    • Nose
The nose starts dusty and more restrained than its (famous) 1951 sister. Fruity notes of mango and yellow apples with a metalic edge. Bitter oranges. Hints of chewed bubblegum. Later on more on leather and shoe polish. Old skool bold and heavy pot still characteristics of spiciness and dried apricots are present at the background. Complex and beautiful.
    • Taste
Grapefruit bitterness at first. Definitely not as round and sweet as the 1951 version but a more raw profile with a husky, greasy, (diesel) oily feel. Some apricots and dates, but also orange marmalade. Freshness of grapefruit. Touch of vanilla as well. Cedar wood. Tobacco at the end.
    • Finish
Medium long. Dry. Black pepper. Pine. A little spearmint. Liquorice. Well balanced.
