    nose:
vanilla, lemon, cold smoke, spices, red fruits
very velvety, honeyed, malty, dry wood, a little damp pebble
    mouth:
spices, malted velvet, candied fruits, a little caramel, packaged country honey,
the fine smoke appears, more ashy and cold,
orange, red, candied fruits on a blended variation in fact with undifferentiated fruits, spices and alcohol in return for a warm finish
    final:
spicy, smoky, fruity, malty, cocoa and creamy, sweetness that holds despite only 40 °, ah a few degrees more and we would have a perfect dram starter.

Smoke, very light with hints of fruits. Basic malt lacking in complexity.

  3. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Always good. The typical Bowmorerauch, slightly floral notes, salt, toffee, oak, a bit musty. Compared to older bottlings, I think this is darker, oakier, less fruity and a bit smokier.

  4. Whisky_in_Saxony scored this whisky 75 points Expert Senior

i bit higher ABV, adding no color to it, charge 5€ more...it would do so much better

Bowmore, the oldest distillery on Islay, a distillery that has created legendary whiskys and today is an example of the wretchedness of corporate whiskys: the whiskys are colored to the point of death, the No.1 Vaults below sea level are printed on every bottle mentioned, in which only the smallest percentage of Bowmore whiskys can be stored and instead of advertising with integrity, one suggests luxury by advertising with Aston Martin. And so this 12-year-old also has a color as if it came from the finest sherry casks - of which he has seen as little as from the No.1 Vaults - and offers no more than the minimum strength of 40% vol. But every once in a while you have to try an industrial whisky.

    • Nose
On the nose the Bowmore is not bad at all. The distillery has a very recognizable smoke that is warmer and rounder than Islay's other distilleries. To me it seems less maritime, less medically smoky. There is also some citrus freshness with a little grated lemon zest and a pinch of vanilla. Due to the weak alcohol, the pleasant smell is carried out of the glass only very thinly and weakly. Still nice in the nosing.
    • Taste
Unfortunately, the taste cannot keep up with the nosing. The smoke aromas alone are not enough here, the fruit is missing, the sweetness is missing. The smoke would need a base on which to unfold, flavors to contrast and enhance. There are a few notes of vanilla, but not much. And here too, in addition to the aromas, the alcohol that could carry them if they were present is missing. So maybe it's even better that it's only 40% vol. Has …
    • Finish
This whisky would be nothing without the smoke, which is also the advantage of this Islay bottling. The smoke has to replace all the missing aromas, but only partially succeeds. In any case, the barrels didn't have much to contribute, there was a bit of mustiness, that's it. The whisky ends dry with astringent notes.

Without E 150a this whisky would probably be lighter than the water from Islay's streams, which at least the peat colors. Ok, it's available for less than €30 and has a defined age, so you have to give it credit. And because of the actually quite nice smoke, it can be enjoyed as a sideline and is certainly much tastier than a Speyside equivalent without smoke. This could be a great distillery if it had great owners and not Beam Suntory.

Excellent. Well balanced. A lot of quality for relatively little money. I have now carefully tasted about 15 to 20 whiskys (in the price range up to 45 euros) but this one will remain on my list to buy for the time being.

    Wonderful Islay whisky
    • Nose
Delicate smokiness that harmonizes perfectly with citrus and honey aromas.

Peated water left in an infuser bottle overnight with some tropical fruits. Too light and watery to give you a true representation of the heft and power of a typical Islay malt. Not bad for a budget malt, but don’t go into it with high expectations.

Edit - getting down to the last few drams in the bottle I feel the need to drop a few points off. Heavy grapefruit flavours are making this less enjoyable

This Bowmore is a great whisky. It will not be so considered by connoisseurs but I like it very much, so full of different scents and yet so balanced. Is it just a coincidence that the property is Japanese?
    • Nose
You can hardly smell alcohol on the nose, scent of cooked fruit, raisins, brioche, light peat, a hint of fresh wood, flowers, vanilla.
    • Taste
On the palate the body is light, fresh, peat is more present but always very delicate (fireplace off), suggestion of candy, a pinch of lemon and dried fruit, a pinch of salt.
    • Finish
      Short, fresh, light peat finish.

Nice, recognizable Bowmore; light, elegant and not obtrusive Islay, you can drink endlessly (for this and a commercial strength of 40% ????).
    • Nose
      84 84
Against the background of the smoky-iodine base, the aroma of dried, even smoked dates, bananas, and figs is pleasantly felt; the freshness of the salty breeze and the scent of algae add marine notes.
    • Taste
      84 84
In the foreground is the theme of a fire: firewood, ash, smoked bacon and fish on coals; then a little caramel sweetness.
    • Finish
      83 83
Long enough, pleasant, nautical; salty smoked; slightly bitter.

Tasty, easy to drink W., interesting and above all variable-diverse. Clear buy recommendation, especially because of the excellent PLV.
    • Nose
      92 92
In the nose a very varied, diverse aroma bundle. Smoke and earthy notes dominate, but next to it - and with every dram a little different oak and malt, and in the background the sea, sherry, citrus and also vanilla and maybe honey. The empty glass still enchants with its malt notes after hours.
    • Taste
      90 90
Good full, slightly oily mouthfeel. In addition to not overemphasized and therefore pleasant smoky notes, there is malt, oak, sherry, fruit and very light sweetness. Here also very varied
    • Finish
      89 89
medium-long, warming with pleasant spice, next to it again malt, oak and also sherry or sweetness.

To me this tastes like what was in the wood box in my childhood home, next to the fireplace: dried American oak. There is some fruit and smoke but the cask was too active. I look forward to tasting a bowmore with a less active cask

    • Nose

Soft combination of the sea (salty, seaweed), with a soft smoke fire. Light fruit hint. Very subtle in everything.
    • Taste
      83 83
Fruit sweetness initially, something of apricot. As longer in your mouth real Islay taste. Smokiness / Peat and incidence increases per second. Develops nicely despite low abv
    • Finish
      85 85
As you hold it longer in your mouth and "chew" it, the finish becomes more intense and smoky. Low abv plays a negative role in keeping your mouth for a short time: 75. Score for finish is for passing through your mouth for longer.

    Great light island whisky.
    • Nose
      85 85
Light enough, Aylovsky, sea, iodine-sweet, excellent aroma with pleasant light woody notes and smoke in the background.

You can catch dried fruit, apples, an unusually excellent balance of sherry extract and a suitable sea Ayle theme.

For me, the Bowmore 12 represents one of the best standards. Not too complex, but fruity, smoky, sweet, no annoying junk and delicious. A few Vol.% Would do him good, but for less than 30 ¬ is an excellent PLV for a really good malt.

Fresh. Light sherry, light honey, hazelnut, a touch of smoky candle wax. Grated orange peel, a little lemon and dry mint.

Light. Hazelnut, some nougat, a trace of earth. Warm mineral water. Milk chocolate, almonds, a touch of ash. At the end a bit thin.

There is always that Bowmore light smoke with honey, toffee, old book pages, some spice, new wood, felt tip pen, grassy notes and a little citrus in the background.
    • Taste
      87 87
It has been a long time since I tried this and to me it's still solid. The standard is still there. My brother loves this because of the light peat, fruit and honey. There is a good balance in there of what average joe and seasoned whisky drinker loves.

old: One of my standard OA favorites, if not even DER, for 12 years he feels very grown-up, clear and straightforward, elegant smoke ... delicious and bargain for under € 30. new: There is nothing to add, without direct comparison, I notice there is no change, fluctuation in the range normal Batchunterschiede, I would say.
    • Nose
Direct comparison version until 2017 (35533) vs. new (95550): old: light smoke / ash, cool, flower meadow with fresh citrus notes (lots of lemon, orange, a little bit of grapefruit), I also think of a slight saltiness, with a gentle honey sweetness new: initially a little drier, smokey, less fruity in the glass (only the grapefruit note is a bit clearer), but within 5-10 min the differences disappear or I could not name any specific, maybe the new one will be even clearer, cleaner, is a bit more perfect in my description of the old, while in the old I find a very light dirty-organic note
    • Taste
old: a touch of grapefruit bitterness, violets, dark chocolate, cold smoke, yummy ... if it lingers longer in the mouth, the chocolate becomes more intense and it feels slightly spicy on the tongue new: the mouthfeel is almost the same, creaminess, bitterness - feels the same, just a little bit more sharpness I find in the old one (and that only after sipping x times), also the flavor description fits 1: 1 on the new, overall, the old may seem a shade lighter / thinner, while the new dark chocolate & smoke are a bit more intense (but really minimal, only noticeable in direct comparison)
    • Finish
both: medium-long, dry, dark chocolate, some salt and pepper, old: a bit chocolatier, new: a bit more peppery

N- Identical soft ashy bonfire notes but with more prominent resinous and rubber smokes. Not as palmy, instead more juicy canned fruit and apricot, fruity punch bowl with smokes vanilla, baked oyster shell

P- Notably more balance on Syringol and Guaiacol compounds on the blend. Fruity with smokes subsides overtimes and saltiness emerged. Ashy from a distant. Wee light mouthfeel.F- Medium, nice olive brine, peppery spicy, cardboard and candy floss. — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.
