Whisky Reviews for Balblair 05-year-old
5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 78.75 points
- Balblair is one of my favourite distilleries and along with Glen Grant 5 year this probably was downed by the bucket loads in Italy where many like there whisky young.
For me it is a poor example of Balblair and cannot figure out why it was ever popular.
It actually reminded me of a young grain whisky recommended by a certain Mr Beckham.
Even for 40% it is quite weak but the more you have the more the sweet fruit is evident which brings up the score for me.
Light and creamy on pear and melon with marshmallow and buttercream.
On the negative side there is a little white wine vinegar and furniture polish.
Light and spirit but also dry and bland.
Cardboardy but luckily after a while some fruit emerges on slightly bitter apple and a touch of gooseberry.
Longer than I was expecting in between short & medium finishes on cream notes.
- A rare young Balblair bottled in the 1980s in a flat bottle with a label emphasising the distillery`s (then) connections with Ballantine`s blend. TWE
