A great and balanced Blair Athol! Fruity and elegant, creamy and soft, harmonious, this malt burns a true firework of flavors. The fine walnut flavor is still over the tongue, a great feeling! I like it very much!
    • Nose
Wonderful and intense sherry aromas rise immediately from the glass. Dark raisins in cognac blend with almonds and walnuts, the berries are slightly fermented and a hint of musty earth lies in the background. The alcohol content is harmoniously integrated, light leather aromas and dried tobacco leaves rise from the subtly alcoholic fruit. Soft and elegant, the Blair Athol stimulates the salivation, the anticipation of the first sip rises. Light sweetness rises from the dried and fermented raisins, the leather aroma has receded and a very harmonious fruit-cognac blend now dominates the taste. In the background are still the spicy and slightly sweet tobacco leaves while a hint of vanilla mixes with a subtle orange aroma. Gorgeous!
    • Taste
At the first sip the Blair Atohl unloads its full aroma on the palate. Spicy notes of wood, mild orange and creamy nougat, then dark caramel and intense walnuts. The sweet and cognac-pickled raisins come immediately after the appearance. A creamy yet dry mouthfeel lets me stop for a moment. Come back to the intense and aromatic walnuts, honey and dark, spicy wood tones follow. A firework of flavors burns in the mouth: oranges, cognac, dark caramel and toffee, nuts in all variations, burnt butter, creamy and dry at the same time ... Slowly, a harsh mouthfeel sets in and tart woody aromas dominate.
    • Finish
The tart and dry wood aromas still exude a wonderful mouthfeel. Creamy, the dark caramel comes back, the cognac note is still perceptible. Butter and fruity berries mingle before spicy and wooden aromas are remembered for a long time. Slowly a fine walnut aroma lays over the tongue and never seems to end.

    • Nose
Orangenschale, Tannennadeln, Pflaume, etwas Waldboden, herber Honig, Nuss, trockener Sherry
    • Taste
Milder Antritt , schwerer Körper, dann leicht adstringierend und sehr säuerlich, Sauerkirschen, dahinter leicht Zitrone, Weinessig, dann etwas süßer werdend, zart Mandarine, etwas Eiche, die Assoziation von Leder, im Hintergrund schwarze Johannisbeere
    • Finish
Etwas Eiche, Cassis, etwas herbe Kräuter

A wonderfully varied Blair Athol, there is a great barrel coming, he jumps from fresh citrus to Armagnac and Plums mustache and back again, a splendid specimen and I find the notes fully justified.
    • Nose
Beautiful nose, old tobacco tin, full nougat, hazelnut caramel bar, buttery, honey, brown sugar, cinnamon, dried fruit, Armagnac, hint of orange peel, some marzipan, very late and also vanilla at the back
    • Taste
Plum brandy, Armagnac, hazelnut butter, beautiful Sherryfrucht in the form of pickled apricot, bitter orange and berry bushes, figs, full plums again, raisins, rum chocolate, red baked apple glazed with honey, hint of smoke in the background with slightly kräutriger oak, thyme and rosemary, with some sip comes out citrus and juniper (reminiscent in combi sums up a barrel-stored gin), ginger and cardamom
    • Finish
Dry fruity, more like a top Armagnac, dried fruit with shell, from apricot to orange, with honey, brown sugar, long

A fine old Blair Athol. So I can not go with the very high average rating (91.22 points) but not. Yes, it shows beautiful old tart tobacco and spicy flavors and a fine creamy butteriness, the influences of the sherry fall for me but especially with increasing time too much down, than that it is enough to a beautiful complexity. In addition, the alcohol could be better integrated in the nose. I really like this kind of malts with unimaginative Sherry influence and age and this one is really good but in relation to others these points are not justified for me.
Let's see what the second tasting says.
Supplement of the second tasting: This time much sherrylastiger in the taste and finish. Also more balanced. A very elegant drop, which I like much better today. Nevertheless, over 90 points are not justified.
    • Nose
Wood, some cinnamon and clear creamy chocolate in the first nose, old oak followed by wonderfully balanced sherry notes, noticeable hazelnuts and walnuts, buttery - sometimes brown melted butter, honey, caramel, marzipan, again "woody-tart" chocolate, cooked Plums, raisins, some leather, sweetened juicy-sweet orange, sweet-creamy candy, cane sugar, despite a long time in the glass, the alcohol is still something in the nose. In the second nose a little more vanilla and spice, the Sherryfruchte occurs (even further) back.
    • Taste
strong onset, citrus notes, sherry, slightly pimply and spicy rolls the strong aroma cargo on the tongue, clear old notes of oak, leather, tobacco without strong bitterness, butter, noticeable spiciness of pepper, nutmeg, a hint of ginger and juniper, butter, Almonds, subtle plum jam, dark chocolate. In the second and third sip something smokey with nougat.
    • Finish
Here dominate old heavy oak flavors, austere tobacco, nougat, slightly bitter nuts (walnut skin), dark chocolate to espresso, orange slice, leather, little fruitiness. In the end even a hint of fresh mint, getting dry

the finish seems to be a never ending story.
    • Nose
sherry, raisins in honey, big red wrigleys chewing gum, tobaco, slightly burnt firework
    • Taste
sour sweet fruit mix in cognac, nougat, plum jam.
    • Finish
wooden, creamy, leather, tobaco, cognac, walnuts, cherry coke. very long.

Rotten tobacco with orange explosion - an impressive malt - very fruity yet masculine spicy, flattering, tasty, and despite the long time in the barrel fresh and still a bit of a Blair Atholl remained - as the great nose reveals - I like it but usually a small less angular - so the bottle is empty too quickly
    • Nose
Moist, musty, earthy tones surround an exciting, fat, complex sherry nose that captivates me from the first moment, honey sweetness meets fresh, fruity acidity, then the blossoms on the orange tree open at the same time as the mature fruits, which scent their oil and juice into the air There is a touch of grapefruit, vanilla followed by oily swirling tobacco smoke, plus nuts and a hint of spicy wood that creates a backdrop for the seductive fruit aromas in the background.
    • Taste
fruity sweet and sour syrupy he is on the tongue, orange juice concentrate - fruity aromatic, then dissolve the tobacco flavors from the nose - spread their intense spicy-sparkling aromas, in addition comes old leather, wood dust and slight hints of mint, delicate bitterness flash off and out of the fruitiness and disappear again immediately,
    • Finish
medium-rich, fruity, with a special tobacco-spicy note - ostensibly harsh in a purely positive sense - it tickles the palate without burning or becoming spicy, almost no dryness, leaving behind warm tingling tobacco

This one has a beautiful creamy vanilla, caramel toffee and coffee nose. Gentle olorose sherry touch and dry oak coming through. The nose is just perfect. Tastewise dry fruitiness and alot of ginger spiced dryness. Aftertaste dry oak. A very nice dram!!!
