The nose is a nice change with the spiciness, on the palate then too weak, uninspired, boring.

Spicy, pine needles, tree sap, subtle smoke, alcohol cools the nose. Vanilla works out. With malt, apricot,

    Quick hit review.

Savory, briny and mineral nose with a touch of sour dough and hot spices. On the palate, decent complexity of low peat with dry and fruity flavors. Campbeltown par excellence. It's slightly hot around the edges, but I like the funky/dirty notes reminding me of Springbank. This is very solid quality, probably even the best of the range!

Nose: first off - big wallop of caramel, then smoke. Let it settle and it becomes more balanced and savoury . Fruitiness emerges, plasticine, touch of sherry, great balance of smokey notes - quite a unique experience. I would guess that peated Glen Scotia Is in this blend - I’m reminded of cheap Bowmore for the other ‘half’ eg Bowmore Select.... Give this time and it’s got quite a playful smokey nose, just restrained enough to be able to pull out deep baked paper on a Christmas cake, without becoming too dominated by the phenols... aged balsamic, a sprinkle of caraway seeds?... The whole actually works very well once you get past the initial smoked caramel combo.

Taste: good balance sweet/ dry with subtle bitterness - the sweeter aspects carry through - then a touch of heat and a slightly premature finish? A couple of drops of water opens up the complexity. Definitely a very competent blended whisky with a Campbeltown feel about it and worth a try if you enjoy more restrained peated whiskies.

[May, 2017]  I had this dram during a walk through Campbeltown to visit all the lost distillery sites (among them Dalaruan distillery that was active from 1824 to 1922).  In this bottling series TLDC tries to recapture how these whiskies once tasted - which is of course highly speculative.  Nevertheless worth a try...

The nose is on a modern sherry profile (that for sure is not authentic) with hints of smoke.  The mouthfeel is soft with some hot moments.  Significantly more peat on the palate that combines nicely with the sherry-induced chocolatey flavours.  The finish is of medium length and fairly sweet.

A nice marketing idea that obviously no one can prove wrong (the same way no one can proof it is right) that at least is easy to sip.  All the rest is left to your Imagination...
