Whisky Reviews for Glenfarclas 12-year-old

- An exceptional single malt. One of the best 12 year old Speyside whiskies I’ve tasted to-date. It just oozes quality and craftsmanship. The fact that caramel coloring is not added is a definite plus. If you live in an area that offers this bottling, definitely give it a try.
Sherry-grape, buttercream, a touch of mint with a slight wisp of vanilla, and a bit of oak wood.
Crisp and slightly biting, with more buttercream/butterscotch, slightly nutty. Perhaps even a hint of peat.
The grape notes return, mixed with vanilla and a bit of nougat.
- A very solid sherried malt. A bit unexpected with the rum-like notes and the herbal tea I was picking up but it all worked together well. Nothing stellar but it definitely won’t disappoint, especially if go into it knowing this is intended as an entry level (along with the 10year old) into the Glenfarclas line.
Caramelized plantains, sugar cane, and moist chocolate cake. Very rum like notes at first. The sherry maturation becomes apparent now with figs, sultanas, grape jelly and apricot. I’m also getting some wet grassiness, ginger, licorice, touches of mint, coffee roast and a nice oak aromas. Also an earthy oolong tea note as well. Not the most complex but still a decent bouquet.
Sweet chocolate candy (think milk duds), orange juice, plantains and raisins. Nice entry. Then the sherry, herbal tea, rum cake (again with the rum?), grape jelly and dried figs. I’m getting some café cubano, cherry lozenges, orange peel and honey as it heads towards the finish
Sherry and cappuccino along with a hints of the herbal tea and orange rind. It’s a rather long finish.
Strong notes of sherry and heavy spirit. It
starts with cherry in alcohol, some white chocolate, light burned oak, sawdust,
additionally, notes of strawberries and melon.
At first contact it strikes with powerful spirits,
then light citrus notes, dryness, a little bit of white pepper. Eventually some
sourness, light bitterness and delicate hot sensation in palate.
Medium long, light, sweet, bitter and semidry.
