Whisky Reviews for Yamazaki Distillery Exclusive
5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 83.36 points
- Young-tasting, benign, smooth, no off-flavors, drinkable -- essentially, it's a Yamazaki that is sold at the distillery shop (price is USD$15) for visitors to bring home so that they can say they've been to the distillery. Tourists come by the busloads (Chinese, Koreans, Japanese..), so they obviously don't have enough aged stock for these folks. The limit was one bottle per customer. Nothing here for the experienced drinker.
- Fresh, citrus like with a hint of fruit, well done bottling which doesn't need time to open up (additional time doesn't improve it I think, but fruity notes disappear).
- Toward the end of the bottle, there's a hint of Yamazaki's new-make yeasty sourness and more woodiness on the nose. The palate breaks apart a bit, but salted caramel shows up and the baking spices linger for longer on the finish. This is a mixture of sherry-cask and new white-oak cask matured Yamazaki that have been aged for about 10 years, according to the shop assistant. The price was 1,460 yen in the shop, which makes this a great deal.
sherry and raspberries, oak and floral (violets), slight acetone note, citrus, vanilla custard, marshmallows
sherry and dried fruits, cafe latte, cocoa
baking spices and licorice allsorts
- This bottle can only be bought directly in the Yamazaki Distillery Gift Shop in Yamazaki, Japan.
