I do agree with all that this is rather young, spirity, slightly one dimensional and of balance. At least, when you just opened the bottle. I was slightly disappointed as well.... But now, after somewhat a year after opening this actually is a very, very fine dram! Now the Glenburgie profile does appear, I would have never guessed just a 9 yo if this was served blind. No off notes, very subtile distillery profile you can notice, just when the ex sherry kicks in. I doubted between 89-90, I cannot recall enjoying an under 10 yo dram this much. Great stuff!

A young flavour-bomb of a whisky. SMWS has it right: this is a very sweet, spicy, and surprisingly savoury dram. Those savoury notes really give it loads of character. It almost reminded me of my local Chinese restaurant: a mix of very sweet perfumes (air fresheners!) with the spices wafting in from the kitchen. It’s drinkable neat, though definitely punchy. Despite that, the form on the palate is actually quite nice. I especially like the very robust finish. Flavour-wise, the palate is a bit jumbled, and while water helped, it didn’t fix everything. I didn’t love it quite as much as some, but this is a nice and characterful whisky which works despite (or maybe because of) the young age and jet-fuel proof.

Nose: Huh, the name checks out. Potpourri: dried flowers, dried citrus peels, star anise, and cloves. Dusty grain, wood varnish, hay, toffee, peach, and various citrus fruit. There really is a savoury kick here: it smells a bit like something you’d start a shoyu ramen broth with – almost bonito flake, but not fishy really... Some dried mushrooms, pine bark, and powdered ginger.
Another half-hour of rest and the savoury elements have really come out. It’s like some kind of old leather or dried-meat kind of flavor.

Palate: Medium weight and silky. Peach tea and honey, followed by potpourri, wood, orange marmalade, toffee, cream, hot peppers, vanilla, and caramel. Plum sauce, raisins, and spiced oak. Black tea and white cherries toward the back.
Several drops of water introduced some Swedish Berries and balsamic vinegar.

Finish: Rich and spicy, getting sweet. Honey, peach, orange marmalade, almonds, chocolate chip cookies, toffee, cinnamon, balsamic, and a hint of wine and those savoury elements. Lightly smoky, almost a distant lapsang souchong.

    • Nose
Restrained, mild and floral. Geraniums, lilac, a little honey sweetness. Then a little more fruity with yellow apples, honeydew melon and physalis. Grated orange peel.
    • Taste
Cereal, pepper, dry grass. A trace of honey. Lemonade.

Geiler Malt. Many rough edges, but very varied.
    • Nose
Nutty red fruits, forest fruit jam, fruit cake, nougat, caramel, red fruit bar, cotton candy, light resinous bitterness, full chocolate
    • Taste
Sweet red fruits, then comes a lot of heat, which packs properly, light youth, again the red jam, slightly tingling, dry behind the back, really a lot of heat
    • Finish
What a heat in the mouth, again the woody or resinous bitterness, oak spice, red burnt fruits, a lot of heat, lasts a long time

very beautiful Dram - no longer looks young - very fruity with many spices - very tasty
    • Nose
Oranges, plums, bay leaves, rosemary, pepper, orange oil, vanilla sauce, a little mango, young light oak wood - bark, tree juice, nutmeg, spices, light roasted aromas, slightly burnt caramel, toffee - fresh sparkling intense - initially there was a slight metallic bitterness - but it warped after a few minutes
    • Taste
rather sweet, lightly fruity, sour, spicy, full-bodied, strong, oak, mint, orange, rumpled overripe apples, vanilla, the longer you chew it, the sweeter it gets - without being disgusting
    • Finish
warming, strong, cooling mint, roasted notes with slight bitterness, slightly astringent - at the end long and fresh with orange oil on the tongue

  10. Calmar scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

    Very young, not yet fully formed, not the most successful aroma with poorly inscribed vegetables and greasy notes, the taste / finish is better, although not deep and very fleeting;
    • Nose
Wet, restrained, the first nose - a wet tree, a varnish; then come to the fore vegetable shades and animal fat, lemon peel, nuts, pork stew, lacquer, ether.
    • Taste
Powerful, sharp, lemon candied fruits with red pepper, spicy and tart oak, berry shades, some tropical fruits, cinnamon, eucalyptus.
    • Finish
Spicy, warming, light tropical shades - pineapple, mango; caramel, lemon peel, ginger candied fruits, light peppercorn, mint.
