Whisky Reviews for Balblair 2005 SMWS 70.16
3 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 85.15 points
- N: Icing sugar, fruity shampoo, active vanilla wood and spirity floral notes. It’s remarkably [perhaps], Balblair-like which is pleasing.
T: It’s not prickly but it is perky with a taut sweetness.
F: Moves to sweet grey mash - think buckwheat pancake mix. Desirable sweet-bitter edge.
C: I find this more preferable to the latest official bottlings [2000-2005 vintages] - given it’s rounder and less stark. Blog.

- SMWS tasting notes:
Let’s start with honey on toast, vanilla pods, gentle spices and ripe tropical fruits – mango and blood oranges. All with Weetabix breakfast cereal, brown sugar and cream. Naughty! The taste is dreamy, creamy and mellow fruit salad with a subtle vanilla custard. Nice! Add water for aromas of ginger biscuits, heady hothouse floral notes, oranges and limes, pineapple cube sweets and a crème brulee. Take a sip and it is thick, creamy rich and textured. Sweet but balanced, with black tea and black pepper.
DRINKING TIP: Enjoy it with jazz! Yes, jazz. And good company.
