Whisky Reviews for Littlemill 1990 Arc

  1. St. Pauli scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

A good whisky, without doubt. Yet I find it a little too green and dry to be that luscious, full bodied, friendly whisky that scores 90+.
    • Nose
A nice and fresh nose of mainly fruit, grass and other "green" things. Ripe apple, melon, lemon drops, icing sugar, vanilla, grass, hay and a bit of dust (husks).
    • Taste
A punchy attack, that fades away quite soon. It's certainly grassier than on the nose. It also has a drying sensation, with pepper and ginger. The fruit is less pronounced now, with mainly lemon zest, and melon. Next to that, there is a hint of hazelnut.
    • Finish
The finish gets better again, but it's still on the drying side with pepper and lemon zest. Next to that, the fruit is juicier now, with some acidity. This is best described by unripe pineapple. Next to that, there is vanilla and a hint of wood and woody spice.

A great old Bourbon barrel Lowlander.
    • Nose
Deep yellow fruit, very sweet malty, almost beguiling in smelling, honey melon, candy, mango, always a grassy touch, you can almost smell the creamy, banana peel, with time comes the oak and strong vanilla
    • Taste
Creamy, thick and sweet of course, again intense yellow fruit, banana milk, light pleasant pounding on the tongue, oak back
    • Finish
Pure yellow fruits initiate the finish, summer herbs, then quite bitter oak, which then stays long

Littlemill 26 yo 1990/2017 (53.8%, Archives, hogshead, cask #32, 267 bottles) Five stars It’s true that I wouldn’t mind a little explanation about the relations between Littlemill and green crabs. Ha-ha. Colour: pale gold. Nose: same vein as that of the Whisky-Doris that we tried yesterday. Perfect fruit salad sprinkled with honey and liquid caramel. Werther’s Originals, praline, Jaffa cake, ripe melons, fresh bark. I have to say this baby sits right between some ex-bourbon Balblair and Bruichladdich. With water: gets straighter, with wonderful grasses. Fresh mint. Mouth (neat): brilliant arrival, fresh, fruity, yet firm, absolutely not vulgar (some ueber-fruiters can get a little vulgar in my book), with this tropical side that we love so much. It’s even got an Irish side, mind you (indie Bushmills anyone?) With water: yeah… Oranges mangos, tangerines, maracujas, white cherries… Finish: same, for quite a long time. Comments: so utterly and totally good! But watch it, it’s another one that’s very dangerously drinkable. Consult a doctor before buying a case. SGP:651 - 90 points.

Just tried this Littlemill at the whisky fair. Simply a fruity bomb. Perfect.

Passion fruit and grapefruit, sweet rosemary, and mint. The palate explodes with tropical fruit, oily and coating, expanding with mint, candy floss and some chalk as we head into a long and warm finish.
