Whisky Reviews for Knockdhu 2006 CA

A powerful and voluminous malt. For his relatively young age, the Knockdhu has amazing power and volume. I really like the bitter and sometimes sour basic character of Knockdhu, otherwise I find this malt a bit monotonous, lacking in complexity.
    • Nose
Before any flavors show up the alcohol stands out briefly and sets a first fragrance brand. Gradually slightly smoky cereal notes come into their own, while dark caramel and toffee combine with vanilla and sugar to form a sweet mass. The hints of citrus and licorice exude a tart acidity with green apple, ripe bananas are powerful, and the notes of corn end in butter biscuits and biscuits. The alcohol is always dominant over the sweetness and the fruity components, the nose is slightly sprittig and "out of round".
    • Taste
Spicy oak elements are distributed intensely and tingling over the tongue. Pearls dance on the tongue, the entire mouth fills with woody sharpness, a pinch of white pepper also heats the tongue properly. Lemon and grapefruit exude her tart acidic aroma, dark fruit flavors end in creamy milk chocolate. On the second sip, sharp pepper burns on the tongue after a short time, this time with a much higher intensity. Again, citrus flavors and spicy wood tones appear, slowly the sharpness fades away and leaves creamy milk chocolate on the tongue. The mouthfeel will produce noticeably creamy and oily, harsh wood tones, dried foliage and slightly rancid walnuts will follow.
    • Finish
Oily and creamy, the partly harsh aromas rest long in the mouth. On the palate, walnuts and hints of chocolate, lemons and grapefruit stick powerfully to the mouth. Here and there, sweet fruit elements flash, from the basic character of the aftertaste spicy and harsh. After a while chocolate and walnuts come into their own again, the intense and voluminous sharpness slowly but surely fades out.

The first impression is fresh, kräutrig and with a lot of vanilla. In addition, light acid as from young pineapple. Some biscuit. Strong and with oak at the back. Cooling alcohol carries the flavors.

Pleasantly warming and full of entrance. Slightly mineral with nice sweetness. With almonds and oak spice.
    • Finish

The finish is short to medium long, dry with subtle Nussigkeit and dry grass. Slightly bitter in the end.

Before tasting, I left it in the glass for approximately 30 minutes. It must be given some time to breath.

Nose: vanilla; some fresh fruit. Very pleasant.

Taste: slightly sharp. Few drops of water makes it better. Fruit; slightly bitter.

    Finish: medium to long.

Not the best Cadenhead I tasted but a nice summer whisky.

Additional note: the longer it stays in the glass, the better it gets. Taste could then increase to 87 points.

Yes, that's nice for a ten-year-old. Not the most complex, but great intense flavors - Cadenhead's Small Batch series does not disappoint.
    • Nose
Lemon, apple, liquorice, dark chocolate, cookie dough, vanilla, toffee, a hint of smoke, some diesel at the harbor - the second nose brings daisies forward
    • Taste
oily, full, creamy, spicy, a lot of lemon, lots of ginger, a lot of dark chocolate, the alcohol presses, then a lot of vanilla and again the cookie dough, a little licorice, again this light touch to a dropping ferry ...
    • Finish
strong, spicy, the ginger is called, vanilla, lemon, lots of dark chocolate, fades in light sweetness ...

    Many cookies! Really doughy sweet.
Then he gets more and more flowery.
Sweet again on the finish. Light chocolate notes.

Score: B (86 if you must); Fruity and savory is my jam, so I like drinking this, but it is consistently overshadowed by other bottles I’ve got open.
    • Nose
Fresh and creamy, with butterscotch, raspberry, vanilla, unripe banana, overripe peach, kiwi, and a little petrol. Borders on hot but it works.
    • Taste
Apples, kiwi, sweet vanilla, orange citrus, elderflower, and a puff of smoke. Creamy.
    • Finish
Semi sweet, with butterscotch and that petrol note. A little smoke at the end prolongs.
