It’s aight. As expected, the peat smoke is very clean and ashy, very much unlike an Islay. That’s not my particular cup of tea, though of course I’ve had excellent peated BenRiachs before. With a spirit-driven BenRiach like this, though, I’d much rather be drinking a similar Caol Ila. There are definitely good things going on in this dram: I dig the soft fruit and buttery notes, and the mouthfeel is nice. It got a lot more complex with water, too. Still, there are many other whiskies in this category I’d rather drink than this one.

Nose: Light, clean peat. Ashy woodsmoke, hay, mud, suede, and a little bit of nori. Sweeter notes of pear, slivered almonds, and buttered popcorn. Icing-sugar-dusted funnel cake at a muddy fairground.
A few drops of water, and there’s sweet malted barley, flowers, and toasted sesame seeds.

Palate: Medium texture. Gentle sweet arrival with pear and honey, then develops softly to a haze of softwood smoke, soft woodsmoke, ash, and hay. Flamed orange peel and barley, with some clove and cardamom spice.
Water brings out more citrus (pomelo) and cantaloupe, and the smoke gets sootier. An unexpected sulfur note also appears on the arrival.

Finish: Medium-length. Ashy pine log campfire, buttered (slightly burnt) popcorn, almonds, green grapes, and mint.
The water adds more tart green grape and a bit of chalk.

Not very complex and you notice in places but the youth, but all in all, not a bad whisky, which I would like to pour.
    • Nose
What a caramel bomb, Werther's pure, the smoke is subtly present with a spicy touch, fir resin, slightly floral, but the caramel kills everything, some salt, with time, the smoke is more intense
    • Taste
In the mouth, it starts slightly spicy and with a good dose of smoke, sweet, he screams quasi ex-bourbon barrel, caramel, vanilla and also some light fruit in the background, which I can not more accurately assign
    • Finish
the aftertaste is drier with smoke that clings to the palate, and the caramel is still there

An ordinary good drinkable whisky, nothing special. Beautiful golden brown whisky color in a slightly dull brown tube. Neat sweet whisky if you like that. Not something specific, there are better Olorosso drinkers. The Peat flavor falls a bit away from the strong caramel notes.
    • Nose
      79 79
Smells strongly of caramel, butterscotch / vanilla, roasted apples and
a bit spicy, small hint Peat but in my opinion far too little.
    • Taste
      77 77
Moderately strong alcohol in the mouth, can take a drop of water. Fairly sweet taste from the caramel and vanilla. Slightly fruity apple flavor.
    • Finish
      80 80
That caramel flavor lingers for a long time
