From a sample left over from a Harveys tasting in May: https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2017/05/05/harveys-brewery-hosts-kilchoman/

Given i was driving, i took a few back home.N: Blind, would i guess this was 100% oloroso matured? - no. Its the clean, smoked barley with an equal mineral=vegetal quality that talks. Peat & youth work so well together dont they, so its puzzling why more non-peated NAS whiskies dont throw in at least a few ppm - old styley. Then again, it would mess up their production of whisky destined for blends. Descriptors then: a little gammon, bacon crisps [not Frazzles, potato chips], paprika-smoked baked potatoes, salad leaves, rubber bouncy balls, cap guns,….. Not hugely complicated but certainly competent & colourful. Put simply, it works.
T: Vegetal-sweet=savoury barley & peat doing their thing, the sherry casks softening everything as to make this 7yo super-palatable even neat. Its when you’ve let a few sips go down that the oloroso clearly stands out agains the savoury-smoky backdrop. Once into the development the bacon and [now tomato &] smoked paprika crisps cement the profile, a lot of that coming from the cask influence - clever!.
F: More bacon crisps, the hammy smoke lingering. A little ashy burned sage to finish.
C: Very clever indeed. Would you look at that, same score for this three times in a row! - speaks of continued consistency from Kilchoman.Scores a B[-]

    Kilchoman loch gorm 2017,

Let's start with the trivial details. You look beautiful. This amber color dressed in black suits you to delight.
Now the main thing, the tasting. Yes, you are well done for your young age, elegant, dirty in a good way, you will like lovers of peat and Sherry.
If I had a little remark to make, your consistency is somewhat watery and prevents me from taking full advantage of you once in the mouth. Your finale could also be a little longer it seems to me.

I will follow your next apparitions closely ...

mild representative of the smoky whiskys from Islay. Interesting with marzipan, brown sugar and dried fruits. If he stands a little longer, more aromas come into play that can be smelled; exciting whisky.
    • Nose
first light smoke, a bit of peat aroma. Sweet and dried fruit. The whisky should stand a little so that all flavors can develop. Then there is some citrus and orange aroma. There is also a hint of vanilla and something floral at the back.
    • Taste
first mild, then spices with light smoke. Sweetness from dried plums, figs and dates. There is another aroma that I find hard to grasp, maybe something like clove (hidden in the spices, it will later on the tongue).
    • Finish
relatively short to medium length with some smoke, this stays on the tongue longer. Marzipan and brown sugar remain with a nice sweetness. It gets dry on the tongue relatively quickly.

Compared to the Sanaig is already full of character. The sherry influence is stronger and the smoke is fuller. In addition, this funny juniper note, which I often times in Kilchoman in the mouth.

For me better than the Sanaig, since he has a bit more corners Loch Gorm. Pretty good.
