Whisky Reviews for Talisker 30-year-old

this is probably the best modern Talisker I've ever had - but it does not come close to a 30yo OA CS from 2009 - its nose is much more explosive and reminds me of 73 "Speysider" - this one is more like 77 / 88er turrets coast influence

On the palate, he can very well keep up - is very exciting and lively - even a little Chilicatch is still there - if more in the middle than at the end
    • Nose
      91 91
lively yellow fruit, sweet dried pineapple and papaya, orange, almost sticky, the fruit flavors are partially overripe just before the ferment but delicious, crystalline noble citrus notes, a hint of cinnamon, licorice, cardamom and liquorice, salty spray, then again Earl Gray with fine Tannins, bergamot, jasmine and orange blossom -
    • Taste
      92 92
sweet mild, then fine mint, wood dust, old books, it keeps on going, is getting stronger, is getting warmer, chili, yellow fruit, honey, lemon, maritime with oily consistency without being sticky or syrupy, while chewing beautiful hardwood notes , Tree juice concentrate, licorice, cinnamon, some wax and shoe polish - always more fruity than spicy, but quite dynamic and complex
    • Finish
      90 90
fine baking cocoa, mineral lemon, life tree leaves, juniper, salt, chili, rosemary sharpness

the finish accumulates, it gets better, more fruity, more intense and longer with every little sip - but today I have a slightly bitter impact

Fantastic part, because no one can tell me earlier, all OA were better, definitely one of the best OA bottlings ever the last 5 years.
    • Nose
Very exciting as ancient Tali, especially, rose water, papaya, avocado, very "noble" acting and sublime, kiwi, mango in sweet tropical honey, marzipan, green tea, cumin, fennel, camphor, ginger, anise, white grapefruit, star fruit, salted Peanuts, a little vanilla and wax
    • Taste
Here, too, some of the tropical fruits, but subtle, not overly sweet and fruity as in some pure bourbon or rum casks, kiwi, mango, avocado, zucchini, green peppers, the famous Tali-Chilli-Catch is also there, beautifully edgy-sweet Malt, green tea, marzipan, camphor, cumin, ginger, hazelnut
    • Finish
Very long, teen, fine malt, chili, kiwi, ginger, hazelnut, warm

  3. LeChiffre scored this whisky 95 points Expert Senior

Fantastic malt with an interesting game of fruity and peppery-spicy aromas with a gentle smoky note. Very complex and well balanced. An absolute dream whisky for special moments.

pleasant light smoke (campfire); to a great fruity note; oranges; Red fruits; Berry; maritime notes; fantastic nose
    • Taste
      95 95
first soft and sweet; then complex strong peppery-spicy aromas; oranges; Peach; some chocolate; soft smoke behind; salty-maritime note
    • Finish
      95 95
long; peppery-spicy and slightly sweet; Oak flavors join it; behind it a nice subtle smoky note (campfire)

Very nice Talisker. As usual for old Talisker: Tropical fruits and smoke. Love it. The Talisker 30 also got a very nice texture and a deep and old character.Concerning price/performance ratio: 7/10
    • Nose
Gentle smoke, marzipan, anise, old leather, apricots, hints of lemon, yellow fruits, roses, a bunch of tropical fruits, honey.
    • Taste
Tropical fruits, salt, overripe apples, dusty old cupboard, some oak spiciness and citrus fruits, very nice texture.
    • Finish
Long. Salt, dried tropical fruits, some pepper and oak.

  5. dram-drinker scored this whisky 89 points Moderator

Starts very good on the nose, can't catch up on the palate, and the finish is a bit unfortunate - though not bad overall
    • Nose
      92 92
Citrus fruits, lemon, quinces, banana, peach, honey, whiffs of vanilla, whiffs of peat, little smoked fish, iodine, whiffs of (good) leather - very good!
    • Taste
      90 90
Oily, fruity, good sweetness, salty, seaweed, little floral, more peaty, just little smoky
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium long, warm, fruity, floral, hints of soap

The elegant interplay of soft vanilla biscuits, creamy beer mash, sweet forest honey and a complex fruitiness (apricots / mirabelles / physalis jam) reveals in the first nose, that you have something special in the glass here. Add to that pleasant willow flavors, some milk chocolate and a beautifully integrated subtle oak flavor. The smoke has decreased significantly after the long maturation period. With mossy notes, over bread and roasted aromas to freshly brewed coffee, the remnants of the smoke form a very complex foundation.

The sweet fruits, a lot of mash, but also a bit harsher moss aromas and a soot-like smoke characterize the surprisingly strong start. Behind it build up pleasant coffee aromas and also the vanilla pastry can be found here.
    • Finish
      89 89
The mouth is now covered with spicy-aromatic aromas of forest honey and apricot jam, leaving a sticky-sweet mouthfeel. Together with a slightly earthy oak note and some ashes, this results in a relatively long-lasting finish.
