Whisky Reviews for Tomatin 2008 MoS

- Intense, fruity, still very oaky young single malt.
But also needs a lot of water.
Without water very strong alcohol in the nose, behind sherry and oak
Fruity sherry, dark chocolate, oak, spice
Long spicy finish.
Long dry fruity oak-rich finish.
- A young, very intense, very nutty ("liquid Hanuta") and really good malt!
heavy, liqueur-like, artificially charged (solvent), sweetness, plums and cherries;
diluted: a creamy-creamy onion, fruity, jam, sherry, a lot of honey, nuts, buttery caramel, tobacco;
medium length, creamy and nutty; in the end a little oak;
- The nose has aromas of sweet cherries, orange, passion fruit, sandalwood, cedarwood, maple syrup and pecans. The taste is a combination of notes of creamy vanilla, strawberry, marmalade, sweet tobacco, nuts, honey and barley malt. The aftertaste is spicy and warming with a pleasant drying accent of oak.
Notes from internet
- Not totally convinced by this, lacks some fruitiness and the fudge is taking too much place. But well, it's obviously young, so of course I shouldn't expect it to go through the glass ceiling.
(Festival note) Solventy young sherry, the kind I'm not fond of. Almond liqueur and an omnipresent dose of "vulgar" butterfudge. A smell between solventy and burnt that I have a hard time describing better. Overly flambeed banana.
Generically and overly caramelised, this really feels like driking varnished liquid butterfudge. Aspecific if not for a some discrete prune-y notes.
Same vein, sweet.
