    • Nose
      90 90
Nutty milk chocolate, fresh plums and freeze-dried apple slices. The plums started condensing and developed into Jiayingzi preserved dried plums which were slightly salted and sweet. There were also Kyoho grapes and honey-dried Chinese bayberries. After a while in the glass, cappuccino with sugary foam, some carabao mangos and sweetcorn juice. Interestingly there's Fanta from the emptied glass.
    • Taste
      88 88
Red fruits and earth to start, raspberries, strawberry jam. Mandarin orange peel, followed by grapes, raspberries, chocolate bar and a touch of fruit stems.
    • Finish
      89 89
Honey black tea, vanilla and dried prunes with black peppers arising. Strawberry jam, nuts, cinnamon and tannins. It got woody and showed signs of black coffee at the end, without bitterness luckily.

    Chocolate City.

Dark mahogany color. Sniffing the bottle brings a beautiful chocolate aroma. Let the glass sit at least 30 minutes. The chocolate aroma continues in the palate, turning into deep, rich dark chocolate, joined by figs, espresso, luscious beef bouillon and sherry mixed in a toasted oak bowl, all morphing into an earthy finish that transports you to a musty dunnage warehouse in Aberdeenshire. There’s a lovely burnt note, like the rafters of the warehouse had caught on fire and the charred smell pervaded the whisky barrels. A developing resinous syrup note. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Long earthy finish. Luscious Deep Rich Burnt Meaty Dark Choco Sherry Stew!

This Parliament is also a poem! For me it is still the benchmark in the sherry whisky discipline! And unbeaten for me at this price of 103 euros! (04/09/2020)

    A brilliant sherry board!
    • Nose
      92 92
Raisins, dried fruits such as dates, figs, plums, honey sweetness, nougat chocolate, cinnamon, Christmas spices, moist pipe tobacco, umami, caramel, vanilla, all perfectly rounded off.
    • Taste
      93 93
Velvety-powerful start. The (dry) fruits of the nose are also on the palate, in addition there is walnut, almond, caramel, a little vanilla and tobacco. The whisky alternates between dry and sweet, with some fruit acid (orange) added.
    • Finish
      92 92
Long. After the dried fruit, the nuts and the sweetness, there remains nougat chocolate, which turns into bittersweet. Dark nougat and the Christmas spices remain until the end and it gets drier. You still have the whisky in your mouth after minutes.

    • Nose
Sherry; Sweet; Caramel; spicy oak; Fruit compote; Citrus note stronger than in the 18s; Orange; fermented raisin
    • Taste
Sweet; Caramel; spicy; beautiful oak; Cinnamon; Sherry; harsher than the 18s; beautiful fruits; then again cinnamon; it becomes sweeter with water and then a beautiful oak comes through again
    • Finish
Oak; spices; Sherry; harsher than the 18s; a hint of cinnamon; with water a hint of nut and, basically, dark chocolate; maybe even a touch of coffee; the oak stays very long and over time a light, fermented orange comes along

Color: Warm reddish brown arouses my desire.

Nose: A wonderful fragrance escapes the glass and flatters the nose of the inclined sherry (maturing) lover. The 48 vol. % push heavy, sweet fruit flavors in front of him. Raisins and plums are in competition. Especially the Plaumenaromen oscillate between sweet compote, plum jam and cake back and forth. He comes heavy, sweet and fruity. I could go on sniffing forever. The wonderful aromas from the Oloroso and Pedro Ximinez barrels give their best. With a little concentration, cinnamon flares up and a touch of brewing paste.
Now I have a memory of cherry soup with sweet dumplings, but I think, now I stop ...

The palate is a strong, but not too powerful start to feel. Now the classic flavors of sherry casks are on the trigger. Chocolate, coffee and cocoa dust make it difficult for fruits to make themselves felt. Nutty bitterness is noticeable and leads the ...

... finish. Long, for my horizons, he does not want to end. Gorgeous tart bittern clothes the mouth. In the finish, the initial fruity sweetness turns into a bitter dryness. The finish is pretty long for me and very satisfying.

Conclusion: For me a great sherry malt. My best so far. Of everything a lot, but not too much, except the distillery character. The taste is great, the nose stunning.

The PLV at this point is impressive. Nice age with balanced sherry-barrel ratio. However, at Glendronach, I prefer the younger two 15/18 a little bit. Pure taste. You can also feel that the 15 u.18 rather belong together. The Parliament is very special.
    • Nose
      86 86
Extremely full and thick on the nose. Oak and sherry sugar. Toffee in milk chocolate with leathery vanilla. You smell so much that takes everything to find. Impressive.
    • Taste
      85 85
Full and spicy, he fills the mouth. Bittersweet but not disturbing, he delivers everything that goes with it. Fruits like plums, currants and blackberries, everything is there. Coffee beans in red wine. Heavy thick toffee syrup. Powerful and woody. In the place for me too much of the good.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium to long with lots of wood and sherry.
A bit bitter and spicy, rather peppery with cocoa and tobacco. It stays creamy with ripe fruit to the end, but overall, the increasingly heavy oak bothers me personally. Too long in the barrel?

Yes! Nice. Did not have a dram of this bottle for a long time. Like Springbank 12 CS, also this Glendronach Parliament never lets you down. Still got 1 closed bottle in my collection. Will be opened when the number of open bottles in my collections drops under 10.
    • Nose
      88 88
Nice and sweet on the nose.
    • Taste
      89 89
Sweet again; warm like a blanket. Sherry influence yes; of course. But the sherry does not dominate too much. Like a Glenlivet SV I tasted this weekend, where you could not recognize the distillery at all.
    • Finish
      88 88
      Long, intense and great.

i kinda agree with the poster below: it doesnt get better with time on the air. it rather loses punch and gets thinner imo. i had this with my last allardice as well: felt the bottle really lost its power after i was half way through.
it still nice, still a sherry bomb but i think i expected a little more. its 87/88ish for me. not really cracking the ninety.

Just opened the 2017 batch LK11814. Wow, what happened?! Disappointingly short finish, thinner in body than my 2013 batch LG10672. The good sherry cask influence is missing, the casks used must've been more mediocre. They probably use the top end for single cask bottlings nowadays. Of course still pretty good, but not one I'd want to build up a stock of before it disappears from the market or gets significantly more expensive.

And it won't get much better with air this time b/c, to quote Ralfy, "the intrinsic quality is not there" to begin with. No need to tame it with oxygen as it won't make it fatter, unfortunately. I think it's really time to try the 18 Allardice next time... Hmm... this really sucks! :-(

The slight advantage it had over the Glengoyne 21 (partly due to quality, partly due to more concentrated aromas b/c of higher abv) is definitely gone, unless the GG has gotten worse, too.Not a 89/90 anymore but more of a 86/87 in my book.
