Sharp and unfinished in the face of potential. 75 points.
    • Nose
Sherry. Alcohol. Dates, cherry. Somewhat sour wood. Burnt almonds. Modriges leather. Red wine. Spicy, echoes of soy.
    • Taste
Sweet and full, but also a bit spicy. Vinous. Pepper. Then leather and plum.
    • Finish
      Long, fruity and leathery.

Nose: Sweet notes - honey, caramel combined with sherry covered with light varnish.
Taste: Meats sherry, slightly oily palpable light old age. The alcohol is very well concealed, it is virtually undetectable.
Rating: 89 | 100 finish sweet sherry with honey. A decent whisky which in my opinion is dedicated to lovers of sweet flavors.

Let it breath for a while in opened bottle, then pure magic starts!

  4. larswehmeier scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

Very intensive herbal note. Reminds me of Jägermeister.
First closed in the mouth. Almost bitter.
With water more accessible but still very dry.
A very intense Mortlach who needs a lot of time.

through the nose a very special but very good malt
    • Nose
He is really red in the glass. very unusual nose, sherry lime and grated tree branches, with time he opens up and known sherry aromas come through. but always a little floral
    • Taste
nice start and medium-bodied body, the green notes are also subliminal here. beautiful light sherry aromas of leather and cherries behind it also a nice draft. looks older
    • Finish
long and intense, warming and great leather and wood notes

I find less plastic cork. Maybe only the idea, but still.
    • Nose
      Marrow pain, orange jam, ginger.
    • Taste
      Orange jam, marzipan, apricot.
    • Finish
Long sweet with a tiny pepper.

The badly fitting plastic cork does not work. Great Mortlach. Give the whisky 90 points.

A delicious Mortlach, which despite a rather active sherry barrel still the Destillerie character shine through. Sweet, waxy and spicy, definitely a must for Mortlach fans, as well as the high price is justified.
    • Nose
The aroma has a dark fruitiness of cherry, rum raisins, wild berry jam and Mon Cherie. The typical distillery character of Mortlach with the typical wax / meat is always present. The sweetness of marzipan resonates in the background. With water, the sherry becomes more subtle and the smell of old wood takes over.
    • Taste
The entire taste is of course dominated by the sherry barrel: dry, oily, with much sherry sweetness, almost even brandy. In addition, the whisky is a bit bitter, like orange zest and still waxy. After adding water, the filling becomes noticeably spicier with plenty of pepper. The sweetie is now more in the direction of honey.
    • Finish
The long finish is characterized by the persistent sweetness of dark chocolate, pickled fruits and after dilution pepper.
