A beautiful originality as a whole. A dram of good quality that will take time to be appreciated at its fair value. I am certain that at collar height and after a few days it will be enriched with new notes. (new review in a few weeks)
    • Nose
On the first effluves, the alcohol is there (too much!), It takes a few minutes before giving way to a "real nose". A very classic early nose with exotic fruits, some floral notes and this little something bourbonesque. We let it rest a little more and everything is complicated. I do not know if it's me but I have some cheese (roquefort?) And even a very slight smoke.
    • Taste
Rohh, the cheese side is always present before leaving room for spices such as cloves. The mouth becomes full and creamy with time on the cooked fruits. The smoke I thought I could perceive is no longer there ... was there a mirage?
    • Finish
Long on cooked fruits, bitterness, cream and pepper.

A very bourbon-esque Glen Keith. The heavy cask influence overshadows some of the fruitiness that other expressions from this period display.
    • Nose
First impression certainly matches the color. As in, the bourbon influence is very evident. Lots of oranges, pine needles, wood shavings. There's some sour lemon and gentle notes of vanilla too, as well as a whiff of fennel.
    • Taste
We've got chocolate, tobacco and bitter oranges, as well as wood shavings, cracked black pepper and apricots. Pretty powerful stuff at nearly 60 percent abv!
    • Finish
Oranges and subtle chocolate. Medium to long.

    Enthusiasm 4/5 Whisky n ° 1382
    • Nose
Well fruity, but the alcohol prevents the aromas from being released. You have to be patient, but it's worth it! It is caressing and sweet. The fruits express themselves in a sweet version evoking a syrup. Mango.
    • Taste
Rich, opulent in the mouth. Fruity. Really very pretty. Alcohol is perfectly integrated.
    • Finish
      Fruits, again!

That must have been a very special cask where this Glen Keith has been in for 24 years! This bourbon barrel must have been so active, that the whisky looks like having been matured in a first fill sherry cask. And it's a bit of a mystery how there must have been quite some angel's share, with only 131 bottles left in the end, while at the other hand the ABV is still almost 60% after so many years. Does anyone have an explanation?

About the whisky I can say that you really smell and taste the wood, but that it's not overpowering the original fruitiness of this Speyside whisky. The wood and the fruit form a balanced combination. This dram has a very pleasant taste of its own.
