- Full bodied and with rich flavors, mouthdrying finish. Great single cask malt. Once again well done Andrew Symington!
- The off-notes give it character, but are on the edge of ruining it at the same time.
Blueberry, caramel, gherkin, salami, peat and burnt rubber. Orange when adding water.
Blueberry, salami, nutmeg, peat, caramel and gherkin.
Salami, raisin, peat, dark chocolate and nutmeg.
Warm smoke, old wood, spices, earth, but also somehow wet sand, black currants, dark cherries, some gum, citrus cleanser, grasses and leaves, dried fruit,
Honey, strawberries, grapefruit, lemon, some soil and again some green plants, coffee, wood, pepper, is really dry in the mouth, smoke very little and almost perceptible to me
- Interesting nose. Somehow so red fruits in a lot of butter. Mushrooms. Also sulfur notes. The smoke I feel a little less strong compared to other Ballechins. In the mouth, the nose continues first. But then again comes the problem, which I often have with whiskys from the wine barrel. Somehow the wine seems set for me. Apart from my "wine problem", I find it quite interesting. After more sips I feel the wine but not so put on.

Quite comparable with Ballechin Batch 7.
- The complexity and almost infinite finish of this whisky is seldom matched in my experience. The nose evolves with air, as does the palate. The richness of the mouth feel is wonderful. I can't wait t0 see how the 15 or 18 year old might turn out - they do have some maturing, don't they?
Smokey fruit like someone threw handful of plums and cherries on a wood fired barbecue. More oak and vanillas coming through as the nose gets used to the smoke
Wonderful explosion of wood-smoked stone fruits on vanilla ice cream. Feeling of velvet coating the tongue when a drop of water is added
So long a finish that the next dram overtakes it!!!
- A very beautiful Ballechin! The maturation in the Bordeaux barrel goes very well with the light smoke.
The small 0.5 liter bottle costs at the cheapest provider in January 2018 at least 70 euros. Despite the strength and single cask this is pretty juicy! If you convert that to 0.7l and 46%, you get at least 80 euros for an 11 year old Ballechin. Whether the bidding justifies this rather high price, everyone must decide for themselves ...
Milk chocolate, raisins and light roasted aromas come through first. The wine notes are discreetly in the background. Not too sweet, no maltiness, a light freshness and only light smoke, which goes towards the stable.
The whole thing is a very nice composition!
Later it becomes fruity (at times almost perfumed), sweeter and carameliger.
The wine notes are directly present and go very well with the smoke and the spice.
The addition of water does not hurt.
Tart but not bitter. Dark chocolate.
