  1. EinSpatzUnterVielen scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

No block malt, but fine, clearly structured aromas, floral-fruity, but also with beautiful, consistently intense spice, tasty, a fine drop with very good balance, behind the back of more and more substance, but slightly alcoholic
    • Nose
a lot of pear, bright apple, lime blossom, apple blossoms, honey, vanilla, gals, chamomile flowers in the sun, sweet, floral, clear, slight malic acid, a dash of lemon peel, milk chocolate, malt, a touch very ripe pineapple, later white-wine-sour, slightly Chervil, minimal fennel seeds, fresh grass clippings
    • Taste
Slightly alcoholic, creamy, soft, good on the nose, lemon, apple, pear, some tangerine, grapefruit, fresh sweet shortbread, butter croissant with cinnamon, malty, dark chocolate, oatmeal, ginger, vanilla, nutmeg, angelica, linden tea, more and more cocoa, Baking cocoa, white pepper, seasoning is increasing
    • Finish
medium length, spicy-sweet, vanilla, linden and chamomile flowers, angelica, grapefruit, a lot of baking cocoa, porridge, ginger and white pepper, at the end again some fresh slightly spicy chervil

  2. Moses scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

A simple presentation with an average PLV.
From this distillery for me the best so far.
    • Nose
Floral fresh notes. Very light fragrance. Bright fruits with hidden wood. Very pleasant.
    • Taste
Apple Helene meets vanilla with a distinct oak. Very classic and yet surprisingly good.
    • Finish
Medium length and sweet with a light body. Refreshingly delicious

If you are looking for a sweet, uncomplicated and inexpensive ex-bourbon whisky, then this tomintoul may be the right one. He is by no means boring or too reserved, but he flatters with lots of sweet vanilla, honey, bright fruits, cocoa and pleasant summery flavors. A whisky for the summer or if you want the summer in the cold seasons!
    • Nose
A beautifully harmonious combination of sweet and creamy vanilla notes, rapeseed and fresh rape field and flower meadow aromas, like on a warm spring day, flows towards me. Refreshing fruit notes of light grapes, sweet limes, honeydew melon and subtle coconut develop. After a few minutes, a slightly acidic component is also revealed, which now reminds the malt of a sweet old white wine. In addition, I now take some cocoa, caramel, white chocolate and sweet pastry notes.
    • Taste
On the tongue now spread nice soft flavors such as creme brulee with some cocoa powder, sweet rapeseed, Amaretti biscuits and sweet milk coffee.
    • Finish
In addition to cocoa aromas and rape honey, it shows a dry-spicy oak, a slight pungency like roasted coffee and subtle earthy plant aromas (freshly mown grass and tree bark).

    ‘Moorish Speysider’
N: No points for guessing its a Speysider but it is less citrusy and floury than others. This Tomintoul has more of a savoury, sweet lemon, spicy character with a prominent clean barley presence at heart. Tastes like some decent spirit here and reminds me very much of Glentauchers 1994 19yo on the nose. Malty, yeasty, edgy, meaty, banana sugar notes come through most strongly.
T: Theres an acute sherbet wine arrival coupled with wood spice streaming in, later turning fresher in turn, all at a lovely pace of change - gradual steps of development. Warm sweet wine all the way through the development with sage and a touch of woody bitter/sweet lemon sherbet.
F: Fresh aniseed sweetness, some bitter lemon, herbal notes and peppered toffee lingers. More indications of good cask wood and quality spirit at the death
C: This is a moorish Speysider, on the sweeter side but never a question of it being too sweet. Ideal strength and presentation at an ideal age.

    Scores a B+

This is a lovely, spirit-and-distillate-driven dram. This is the type of whisky I always want on my shelf, and the type of dram that makes me thankful for whisky in general. It may not be "easy," and the flavors may be a bit hidden, but it is NOT subtle. It is zesty, refreshing, and flavorful. In my opinion, the arrival is the main event, and no water is needed.
    • Nose
Pineapple. Citrus-driven with lemon and lime and fresh fruit, apple, and custard. Cereal sweet with vanilla, honey, and butterscotch. At times there is a sour/musty and mineral component, at other times more flowery. Overall, fresh 'n' clean and very refreshing.
    • Taste
Full body and sumptuous. Honey sweet and sour attack. Creamy. Delicious arrival. Very more-ish. Lemon, orange, and citrus candy. Effervescent, tangy, hints of mint and cloves at times. Honey biscuits. Just LOVELY.
    • Finish
Lovely, light, and effervescent. Sugar, lemon and lemonade, and the pineapple and pineapple juice returns. Vanilla, custard, and chocolate at times. Eventually oak bitterness appears, and sometimes a hint of "lager." Buttery, toffee. With water: brewed tea and rose water, ginger, orange, citrus.

It is not very volatile. Slightly withdrawn. Sweet. Vanilla, maybe some malt. Then the fruit comes. Slight acidity. Ripe apples. Apple pie. A pinch of spices. Cinnamon.
    • Taste
      75 75
At first, some sweets. Vanilla. Then the ripe fruit. Slight acidity. Apples. Then spices. Pepper. Some oak. Roasted caramel.
    • Finish

Spices. Cinnamon, maybe nutmeg. Lots of oak. Pretty bitter. Medium-short finish.

It says "the gentle dram", yet it's not weak at all. 46% vol. and a distinct and slightly bitter oak taste. Quite light anyway and full of bittersweet fruit flavours, it's a pleasant and enjoyable drink, perfect for a warm spring evening.

The nose is not very strong, it has ginger, plastic, lime and pastry. After taking a sip some hay and wet grass/wood notes strike also soup connotations appear. The finish is pretty decent - sweet and more soup.

Aroma: malt-citrus, bread crumb, lemon slices, butter cream, caramel, monpensier candies, lemonade, light minerals, hay. Over time, vegetable notes, boiled root vegetables, ginger-lemon tea appear.

Taste: spicy ginger, saturated, zest, citrus fruit marmalade, spices and spices, spicy wood.

Finish: slightly bitter willow twig, zest, lemonade, ginger echoes, a variety of wood motifs, medium length, very dense and saturated, the fortress seems to be higher than stated.

    Rating: 85

Bottom line: a little different from the usual spider in bourbon, there are no Apple-pears, flowers, a lot of citruses, pungency. Pleased with the density and saturation in taste and at the finish, although simple but pleasant and harmonious whisky.

    Warm and easy.
    • Nose
Delicate,honeyed-cream with light floral malt, hints of wlid fennel and a complex sweetness.
    • Taste
Dry oaky vanillas and clean creamy malt which never overpower a natural sweetness.
    • Finish
A proclivity to dryness with slight peppery tones.

Aroma is good, leaves in the taste unfortunately a few feathers, but the finish again interesting. For me, however, only 3 stars. Unfortunately, there is still something missing.
Nevertheless, really good to drink and certainly not a bad whisky. Keyword "moan at a high level".
    Can you also offer.
    • Nose
sweet, floral, light fruit and citrus notes. After the first sip I think I still find caramel
    • Taste
spicy, sweet, is quite soft and "round" in the mouth. For the aroma, I'm a bit disappointed with the taste. My slightly orange to guess, malt is also present.
    • Finish
long, alcoholic, light vanilla, sweet and mild, later a slightly dry wood tone. Departure for me much more interesting than the taste.

Fruit salad based on pears, a bit spirity and lacks compexity. An average 46% au naturel example of bourbon wood maturation. Nothing bad, nothing to remember though...

Goody-good natural Speyside malt with a very fresh profile you wouldn't expect from a 14-year-old - it's more like a 10-year-old Lowlander. But still, it's very clean and enjoyable and rather good value if you're looking for a summery dram.
    • Nose
Without water: Nice sour and sweet impact on the nose, on fresh citrus fruit, tangerine zest and barley sugar, with some yoghurt and yeast in the background. Floral with a hint of mint.

With water: Creamier, maltier, but still there's a beautiful fresh fruit present. Pineapple with lemon juice? Very nice nose.
    • Taste
Without water: Quite punchy attack, very much in balance with the nose. The development is a bit weakish; probably not all the casks for this malt have done the best job. But still, I like this, especially the tart bitterness on the back of the palate. Unripe lemons, tangerines, barley sugar, hop (there's that bitterish lime-y IPA note around).

With water: Again, creamier, more rounded with a nice starchy side. I'm getting almond butter and sweet potato. Maltier, but still fruity and mildly tart.Very good, this is a beautiful summer malt.
    • Finish
Medium, on malt, some honeydew and lime juice.

N- Soft, mineral, crisp and fresh mist. Grassy with fragrant of tea.

P- Tea again, tart with hints of spirits with raw honey sweet. Closed. Light texture. F- Smooth, short finish. Peppery with hints of rough spirits at the
tail. Off balance, as spirit overtake the flavours, a fail experiment to
bottled it higher than their usual strength.

Delicate, with malt, little spice, vanilla, a fresh sea breeze, apple, pear, grass (reminds me of a sauvignon blanc).
    • Taste
Medium-bodied, medium sweet, later getting a bit bitter on green herbs. But overall it's influenced by creamy notes of vanilla and yogurt with cereals.

a fine example of a speysider, very "natural". 85/86
    • Nose
very typical light and fresh speyside nose. at first a bit closed, a few drops of water open up the full perfume: grass and lemongrass, pretty mineral, kind of rieslingesque, lemon, lemon peel, lemon sherbet, cream, light honey, barley, a touch of oak.
    • Taste
fresh, soft, creamy arrival, sweeter than expected, a herbal bitterness fades in, lemon oil, honey, white pepper, aniseed.

The Speyside distillery of Tomintoul has added a14-year-old expression to its
line up, which includes 10, 12, 16 and 27-year-old variants, not to mention
Peaty Tang and Old Ballantruan. Light, fresh and fruity on the nose, with ripe
peaches and pineapple cheesecake, delicate spice and background malt. Closer to
barley sugar with the addition of water. Medium-bodied, fruity and fudgy on the
palate. The finish offers wine gums, mild, gently spiced oak, malt and a
    suggestion of smoke.

it took me a few times to appreciate it, fresh, smooth, round taste, it really has a lot of complexity, probably thanks to its 46% whereas most of the other Tomintouls are only 40%... considering the price (around EUR 40) an even better whisky... great dram, try it

One of Speyside’s youngest distilleries, Tomintoul has been a relatively
shy performer until recently, when a raft of new releases (some peated)
have appeared. This non-chill filtered example is, for me, the best of
    the bunch.

A meadow in the evening, flowers in the nose. Fresh cutted barley with some honey in the mouth. A sweet middle long finish brings that bottle to a good choice, buy it.
