Tonight it is finally time for a blend H2H 1930`s - 1980`s. I have been planning to do something like this for some time and the opening of the a Huntly Blend from the 1940's is perfect timing.
In order of when the were bottled (approximately), the contenders are

The white Horse 1939 is more full bodied than I remember but also has more bitterness on first tasting but as you get going it gets sweeter, a nice aperitif. There could be in theory whiskies from the 1920's in this bottle, certainly the early 1930`s so the oldest whisky I have tried.
This Huntley from 1947 is a heavier sherried whisky then the White Horse, much more full bodied and has a little woody bitterness but there is a lot going on, I love it, it has a nice malty finish to it with some spices and fruit gums thrown into the mix.
The Gilbey`s is different by some margin, quite a lot going on and is sweet, even for blends it is an experience.
So far Huntly by some distance then Gilbey's then White Horse.
The Grant's Old Procurable is pretty awful stuff bringing up the rear at the moment.
The black & white is decent but the House of Lords Original is awful, when I had a full bottle I thought it was lovely, the bottle this sample has come from must have been stored in sunlight.
Half time round up
1 - Huntly 1947
2 - Gilbey's
3 - White Horse 1939
4 - Black & White 1965
5 - Grants Old Procurable
6 - House Of Lords Original ( Bad sample)
The Ambassador 25, was the one I was looking forward to the most, thankfully it is decent but not as good as I was hoping. Trying the 12 year Cluny I will need to re taste the Huntly as it was that good. Tried the Huntly again, it is very close, the Huntley has a slightly better palate but the Cluny has the better nose.
